Quick thoughts...am I right here, as far as anything that's not potable water supply piping, lead-free solder sucks, no?

Forgot to mention the silver solder, nice catch, Ralph. Although, I think it's darn near impossible to find good-old lead solder anymore. That stuff would flow like nothing else. I just put together a copper cannon today, and getting the lead-free stuff to flow was a definite pain.

Yes, as brass is mostly copper, the two can be soldered together easily. I'll have pics of just that when I post up my next project. The same can be said for bronze, just like the bodies of most sweat-together ball valves.

Metered propane would be a definite upgrade, and it can be done cheaply if you source your parts correctly. It would certainly improve your consistency from shot to shot, if not just improving distance, as would a chamber fan. Ignition, again it's a matter of how you source your parts, whether you b...

Great Idea, Pimpmann. From the looks of things, I'll be one of the ones coming from a great distance. If people are willing to share on gas, this sort of arrangement could be a great way to get more people to show.

That's probably because you have to enter a zip code to find it. The conduit isn't sold online, it's only available in store.

The gray Sch 80 PVC is actually a UV-resistant outdoor conduit. The SDR21 is a lighter weight conduit designed for less stressful applications. I actually just made a sleeved barrel this week. The guys aren't joking about the two fitting just barely, I had to hammer for about 15 minutes to get my 4....

This just seems incredibly dangerous for a variety of reasons...as far as explosion simulation on impact, why not a hollow projectile filled w/ powder, not unlike simulated 40mm grenades the army uses for training?

Home Depot should have the Schedule 80 PVC, but not in plumbing, it's in the electrical department. It's a fairly standard item. If not, call electrical supply places and ask about conduit.

Okay, got a few barrels built. You can see in the picture, there's a 3/4"x5 barrel at the top, which certainly looks menacing. In the middle is a 2"x2 barrel, which looks more menacing from the barrel end. At the bottom is a piece of sleeved SDR21/Sch80 GB barrel. I say, it looks darn good. http://i...

Also, the 88 gram CO2 cylinders have a puncture disk sealing the opening. When you screw it into the ASA adapter, it's just like a really big 12 gram being loaded into an air pistol. The ASA adapter has a pin valve just like the larger CO2 tanks.

Okay...I found a hot tub repair place that let me look around their supply room, and picked up a 2" to 3/4"x5, as well as a 2" to 2"x2 for a grand total of $15.01 for the pair. Interestingly enough, build quality seems to be better than expected. Let's get down to the measurements. The 3/4"x5 manifo...

Well, as far as smallbore ammo, have you guys looked into steel shot for reloading shotgun shells? looks like it runs about $25/10 lbs. Not exactly cheap, but you can get probably 10,000 shots out of a 10 lb supply of it.

As you didn't mention a spring, I'd also take it that you're not getting filling quickly enough to seat the piston. If you're filling with a compressor, I'd strongly suggest a larger input on top of a larger pilot as dudeman508 just suggested.
