i don't see how a pipe could handle the same pressure on the outside as the inside, as this demonstrates, you only need to crush the pipe on the inside on the outside it needs to rupture

most of the larger dryer units are filter dryers, and as these go on the inlet you can face them downwards so any moisture can drain out, although this would not be an issue as the desiccant would already be useless by now and not collect any water but it will filter the air.. the homemade job would...

the large blue job is the filter/dryer and to remove the oil stuff the outlet pip with steel wool (the coarse stuff like a kitchen scrubber) and that will/should catch most of it. just make sure it can flow back down into the compressor

you shouldn't need to put oil in it unless you start losing it on the outlet, then you could just collect and return, or just make sure the outlet runs upwards for a short while so it can run back in by itself. you should have kept the dryer/filter unit if it was the to stop dirt ingress into the pu...

you can carefuly cut a slot in the DWV and then with a heat gun or hair drier heat up the glue and then peel the DWV away.. make sure you clean all the old glue off before you use the new fittings

i have some 1/2" QEV's from bellpro (i bought 3) i wouldnt even consider using one as the main valve the ports are tiny,, i might use it as a pilot actuator valve though

i tend to get the slightly more expensive valves ($15), i have had to glue o-rings on though at 500+ psi, try doubling up the shaft o-ring, and give the whole thing a good grease up
