Re: Question regarding spigot mortar style ammo.
I have been thinking about hollow spigot launchers more now... was it this thread that caused it or is it the Umarex Air Saber? For the arrow launchers do they not worry about the dead space? Maybe not since they are hunting-oriented. I'm guessing because the arrows are probably made to be very lig...

Re: Question regarding spigot mortar style ammo.
I like your thinking. I fooled around with the dowel inside the hollow projectile idea too, but gave up because I am lazy. You could even replace the dowel with water... Tho that might really over complicate things hehe. It would be neat to play around with though. Mostly this! I looked around in m...

Question regarding spigot mortar style ammo.
So a while ago i built a fully steel, 1.5" piston-valved cannon with the intention of firing 28mm fin stabilized projectiles consisting of wire rods and washers. I was expecting some serious recoil, so i built a piston into the stock to help absorb some of that recoil. But JSR told me that the very ...

Spare aquarium filter impellers sure look like they'd make for some nasty, hard hitting slugs! https://i-bosity-com.oss-cn-hongkong.aliyuncs.com/product_img/257/64020040/64020040_9_image.jpg?x-oss-process=image/resize,p_100/watermark,image_d2F0ZXJtYXJrX2ltZy8xNzExMTQyNC9kZWZhdWx0LnBuZz94LW9zcy1wcm9j...

IFEX 3000 water cannon anyone?
Just found out about this thing, looks crazy simple to build for some mindless backyard blasting! Not quite sure how the nozzle works tho, it seems to be watertight when the gun is filled but water can squirt out when it's being overfilled so I'm guessing it's some kind of spring loaded one-way valv...

Re: Describe the ultimate potato cannon
A fully automatic 40 x 400mm cannon based on the 40mm Bofors with pre-charged x10 hybrid shells. Tho that would never generate enough gasses to cycle any kind of gas operated action, and you would most likely want that thing to have a locking bolt. Thus either an entire pneumatic standalone piston/c...

I currently have an M1 carbine disassembled on my table right now and these guns just look so mechanically similar!jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:Yet more powderburning distraction, this time in the form of a Mini-14.

Re: Rifled aluminum barrel vs PVC driveband?
What's a PVC driveband? Sorry, turns out the correct term is driving or rotating band, my bad. It's used on artillery shells that are made of steel so they can't really use the rifling of the barrel. The driving band is a band that's wrapped around the shell near the bottom, and is made of a soft m...

Rifled aluminum barrel vs PVC driveband?
This would be for a hybrid cannon. If the caliber would be 30mm using a 5mm (10mm also an option) thick aluminum tube firing projectiles with a PVC driveband; Would this be a durable design? Or would the aluminum rifling wear out too fast?

Re: Using a pneumatic cylinder as a recoil buffer?
Got a full scuba tank to fill the cannon up and my first finned projectile! Although, i did some calculations and it turns out my barrel/chamber ratio is not that great and i should probably chop almost half of the barrel to achieve a good ratio... I hope, I really suck at mathematics, i'd rather ju...

Re: Milkor MGL drum mechanism...
Nice! I've always wanted one of those, but back when i was still into airsoft i can still remember feeling so bad-ass with my underbarrel M203... Only to fire it on a group of opponents and finding out the shell had bled out in less than an hour, resulting in a faint "plop" and 3 BB's rolling out th...

Re: Using a pneumatic cylinder as a recoil buffer?
Yup, i remember using those manual ones in shop class when i was a kid. But it seems like they have been shoved off of their throne quite brutally by the electrical ones... I'm sure that if i bought a Makita i would not have had this problem, but that was just too much money for the few times i'd us...

This one?

You could fit the shrader valve to the pilot and use it to both fill and fire the cannon? All you'd still need is a chamber and a barrel.

Re: Milkor MGL drum mechanism...
Well the final design would be an AA-12 style gun, shooting a bunch of BB's (maybe 25 or 30 depending on the design) at the same time. The drum magazine would have roughly the same dimensions as the AA-12's 20rd drum. So it will probably have more than 20 chambers, each having roughly the same diame...

Re: Milkor MGL drum mechanism...
But wait, you also informed me about Swan donavons exhaust mod in the short questions topic! After releasing the trigger, the air in the variable output chamber gets dumped into the atmosphere. Maybe i could still use the MGL's gas-operated ratchet design, but actually use that small amount of air t...
