Re: First hybrid build
How long of a barrel do you plan to use? It looks like it has enough chamber volume for an extremely long barrel. Especially at those mixes, unless you are going VERY long it looks to my not so expert eye as if it would perform just as well with a much smaller chamber. Have you tried playing with th...

Re: First hybrid build
I have had good luck using auto or motorcycle spark plugs. I use ones with a 10mmx1.0 thread and bought a tap for that size. autotoolworld.com has a decent price on the tap.

Re: SpudFiles Snow Report
In my part of Maryland we got 14 inches of snow last night, but we are supposed to get at least 4 more tonight. I love it! I wish I was getting paid to dig my van out! I should get you and PeteS to come help me out  hell your both only 20 minutes away on a nice day with no traffic.......

Re: Oogoo
This stuff sounds interesting. I can think of a ton of applications for stuff other than spud guns. For spud guns less so. As you said piston bumpers might be one application. Molds for projectiles of parts might be another. Insulating or fully potting electronics either on the gun or in the project...

What sizes are the pieces?sw5amped wrote:Reason is cuz it has a much smaller chamber size than my other cannon.
I look forward to seeing it in action (in pics and vids) or at least reading some details.

Re: Small Portable Compressors
On any of the small compressors, check the duty cycle. Some will melt down if you try to keep an air cannon filled for an afternoon of launching starches. I use a small nailer compressor on an inverter. Limited to 100 PSI though.. For duty cycle, check the owners maual. This is gleaned from the Hus...

Re: Union Mods for Burst Disk
My union isn't nearly as angular as yours is, for whatever reason. The chamber side is mostly flat, and the angled part of the barrel side extends maybe 1/16" into the chamber side's angled face. Seeing how well your mods turned out makes me wish I had a lathe... Maybe this summer I'll turn one sid...

Yes understood. Just to be clear I didn't mean anything I said as a put down of your gun. If it sounded that way I apologize. It looks like a nice setup and a lot of fun. I look forward to more pictures and reports when it is working again.

Re: New Toy
Worst case scenario it'll be around 2/15, since that's the next time I'm going home. Bummer that you have to wait that long but I am sure you will get it sorted out. It is a shame to have a nice cannon sitting around and not be able to use it. A lot of the following is just my preference, presented...

Union Mods for Burst Disk
I started with a standard 1-1/2" union from Home Depot. It looked basically like this: http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/aa436/staehpj1/Mobile%20Uploads/20140121_094308_zpskfiyz9lw.jpg I then chucked the pieces up in my lathe and ground the tapered faces flat. It could be done with a belt sander, ...

Re: New Toy
In the pictures it looks like the wire is probably not high voltage insulated. Could the charge voltage be bleeding off through the insulation especially since it is in contact with metal much of it's rather long length? At least that is something you can check without taking much apart.

Small Portable Compressors
I tried a cheap one from Harbor Freight and it was a complete joke. The gauge read 120 when it topped out, but actual pressure was 50 and it is claimed to do 220 psi. Basically it is a piece of junk. Later I tried a little 120v one from Home Depot. It was a Husky Inflator http://www.homedepot.com/p/...

Re: New Toy
Before completely redoing the spark plug, I would take some very fine sand paper to both sides of the spark gap. Also check that the connection to the ground pipe (and any other connections) is (are) good. Are any of the pipe joints the current passes through taped with teflon tape or pipe dope? How...
