Re: Howitzer project

This is the final build post. I scrapped those canisters for an even simpler shell, but there's no way to make it hybrid, only combustion.

Re: Interrupted Screw

Just in case someone looks at this and wants to do the same thing: I've fired the gun on several occasions now. My shells work awesome, and the threads still exist on my chamber door, which is a good sign. A few notes, you 100% need a gasket, and the way you make it can either work for or against yo...

FINALLY Completed Howitzer

Good evenin folks! I've been waiting months for this. This gun has gone from a vintage-looking wooden carriage with shells the size of large spud gun chambers into a pretty distinguishable howitzer. My original idea was to use gigantic shells, and a rifled barrel. The barrel rifling... didn't work o...

Re: Interrupted Screw

Haha, you called it. I needed three rings and a pad. I needed to make them myself, but they worked in the end.

Interrupted Screw

Evenin folks So I had a change of heart. I can't get my ignition to work in the shells I've been trying to get my howitzer to fire, so I'm giving up on using a precharged shell altogether. Now it's just a shell with a potato shoved up the chamber, and a screw on backing to my 4 inch chamber like eve...

Re: Semi auto (possible full auto) combustion gun

Hey Dijit, I commend you for your design! I think you're on the right track for something pretty dang cool. Lets talk concept. In order to have full auto, you'd need a fuel injection system which dumps whatever you have, combustible gas or pressurized air, into your chamber before the action complet...

Spark plug ignition problem

Ok fellas, I've got an odd one for you. So I've been working on this howitzer. It's supposed to use shells instead of being muzzle loaded, so the system is fairly complicated which... complicates things. Here's a load-out of my system: -Spark plug ignition, which is an actual spark plug with the gro...

Re: Howitzer project

OK so there's a good part of it built, I'm makin the door and a closed firing mechanism now. Here's a link to a video with the first firing. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=708499769207929&set=vb.534658743258700&type=2&theater Did NOT expect to hit the target, and no, it's not supposed to recoi...

Sorry, this is a better picture. Again, those buildings are long gone and the ski area is mostly overgrown

This is just the bottom of our ski area face. There is no longer a ski lift, and that building was torn down, we're good to go for the range even if it could go that far.

As for the sight-line, that's why we have forward observers down range!

Specific range analysis

Hello folks! So I made this in my spare time. It's an excel sheet for projectile motion.I can't attach the spreadsheet, so here's a picture: Excel pic.png This is a cutaway view of the range I want to accomplish in the metric system. We want to haul our cannon up the hill and hit a smaller hill down...
