Re: My first working pengun- ammo questions...

:D Okay I have all my new components! Unfortunately though, since my piston's seal has already worn out, I cannot shoot the new ammo quite yet. For the new seal, I am using 1/16" Ultra Strength Neoprene from McMaster, which I think will last much longer than the old seal, which was simple Natural Ru...

Re: My first working pengun- ammo questions...

Hmmm... from the pen itself? Or the target? Could it be that you had some lubricant in the barrel that ignited from the sudden compression? It was from the target for sure. Maybe just from the steel hitting steel. I did lubricate the piston quite heavily with silicone grease, but I don't think that...

I shot a tin can with a nail using the pen gun @ 1000psi. I was quite happy with the results...

When I shot it, I saw orange sparks fly out, and it smelt like smoke... Is that normal?? Lol.

Re: My first working pengun- ammo questions...

If you find some with the right size head, you dont need to remove it and it will apply some drag stability. I like the nails for hanging pictures. I found a couple nails around my apartment... I have also ordered more ball bearings and tiny tiny nails which should hopefully fit. I will try and rem...

My first working pengun- ammo questions...

I have finally completed a simple coaxial pengun, yet another copy of a copy of JSR's design from so long ago. I'm very happy with it! 20201216_154331_HDR.jpg The build is made up of two 1/8" brass pipe nipples coupled together, with an OD 7mm ID 6mm stainless tube epoxied inside. Inside of that tub...

Re: Introduction and My First Pneumatic

I sprang for a drill at walmart, as it was even cheaper. I had always assumed they were more expensive than this... 16 dollars for a cordless drill. Not like it seems to work well enough. Popped it in the vise, gave sharpening my tube a go. Got a pretty steep edge on the whole thing. Not terribly sh...

Re: Introduction and My First Pneumatic

I got my hands on a nice 1/4" thick piece of rubber. Now, my issue is cutting my piston out of it. I first tried to punch out a cylinder of it by merely pushing a segment of my chamber tubing into the rubber until it came through the other side. I placed my chamber perpendicular to the rubber sheet ...

Re: Introduction and My First Pneumatic

I have had great difficulty casting a piston for the pen gun. My problems mainly arise with pouring and removing the materials I have tried so far. I was only able to remove my hot glue piston once. The second time, I tried to remove the hot glue from the pipe section I casted it in and it was stuck...

Re: Introduction and My First Pneumatic

Although taking fittings outside their ratings, especially to such an extreme degree, is inherently dangerous, I don't see this is particularly suicidal. I am well outside the burst pressure for any component and the only thing I can see getting easily destroyed is the diaphragm in the QEV, which wo...
