that, i will keep in mind. the idea i had about it was to get about 800 pounds of sandbags to put all around this thing to keep it from destroying itself (and also to help contain shrapnel in the event of a failure). if anyone has tried this with a big gun, i would like to hear how it worked before ...

yeah, it is going to be built around 4-6 pieces of 3/4 inch plywood shaped to the tanks and barrel and it will be screwed to 2x4 runners that go the length of the tanks that can have a sheet of plywood attached to the bottom so that sandbags can be put on it to prevent energy loss due to recoil. ive...

ive been driving for almost 5 years now (if you count when i got my learner's permit at 15), first, i had a '97 corolla that my parents bought and let me use, then about a year ago, they handed that to my brother and i bought a '95 ford taurus SHO with a 3.8 litre v-6 and truely dismal gas mileage (...

i would love to go to metal, but i cant afford the fittings, and i cant afford a compressor to get me over 125 psi. i would have to use a chemical reaction of some sort to get that kinda power, and ive nearly blown myself up once with what amounted to a 5 foot long sch 40 dry ice bomb already (only ...

I don't mind being asked I just don't feel like going through the hours of trouble drawing a detailed blueprint of a unique gun I designed, wich cost me hours to figure out in the first place.I know I build mine in a slightly unusual way so along with the blueprints I'll have to answer an X amount ...

i will be sure to use something to firmly connect the barrel to the tanks at several points, probably plywood forms on the inside, and i can get access to a banding machine (like they use for stacks of wood) to pull it together nice and tight.

thanks for the advice though.

unless it is a big gun with a lot of pieces, you dont really need plans, just make sure you put it together straight and leave enough room to get your valve off if you need to.

my monster cannon

i have mentioned it already on here, but i figured it was time to make a thread about it. i am planning to make a gigantic compressed air cannon using one 18' 4" diameter sch 40 barrel, two 10' 6" diameter sch 40 tanks, and two 3" piston valves (this hasnt been decided for sure yet, but i like the i...

i would be willing to try it if i had safe conditions to test it under (electrical ignition and about 300' of cord on a square mile of empty land from behind a large tree), but really, it isnt worth it. compressed air or standard combustables are plenty dangerous for me...ive very nearly blown mysel...

even at 80 psi, i think watermellon would be mush, but maybe a grape fruit or something. i will have to start testing things for fit. me and my partners (this gun will be a joint effort as it is too expensive for any of us to build alone) are going to start building soon as we get our tax returns ba...

yeah, ive thought of that. its a little more dangerous than i am willing to undertake though.

technically, you could have as much pressure as you like in there though...could be useful for eliminating combustion chamber bulk.

if you pull a spark plug out of a mower and leave it attached to the magnetic stuff and the pull string, i see no reason it wouldnt spark.

not a bad idea with the fruit, but my little gun makes apple sauce at the end of the barrel. if i shoot an apple straight up in the air, i get dime sized pieces back on the ground (at 125 psi). i cant really see bigger fruits fareing any better in a gun as big as i am wanting to make, but i will giv...
