Anybody with a much more scientific and/or experienced answer. Sorry, bud, but everyone has made a magnet with a nail before.

Electromagnets

Has anyone made powerful electromagnets before? According to my calculations, if I could make an electromagnet from a pipe that is 2.4" ID and 2.792" OD, 3" long and will hold 800 newtons (81 kilos or 180 lbs) I could make a 2" porting, electromagnetic piston valve. Does anyone know if this could be...

Okay, here is how you fix a leak. Epoxy! You can either get epoxy puddy or liquid 2-part epoxy. I recomend you get the 2-part epoxy since the liquid will form around the leak better. Use some soap and water to find the leak. Just pressurize the gun then dab the soapy water over the leaking joint. Th...

That would require a much more powerful electromagnet and would decrease performance. The main benefit with this kind of valve would be the lack of a need to vent the pilot. In this way there is no pressure that is fighting the movement of the piston.

okay, listen, instead of double posting, use the edit button. Second, use spell check. Your grammar is terrible. Third, skip Home Depot or Manards and go to a plumbing supply store. They have better stuff there than Home Depot will ever have.

What would be prone to failure with an electromagnet? The only thing that would turn it off would be disconnecting the power. A four year old could make an electromagnet. The only difficult thing with this idea is that it would require o-rings on the piston. The electromagnet could just be a metal s...

First thing is that you will have to get a small surface area that air is pushing on the piston, say a 2" valve in a 2.5" tee. Next, all you need is a good enough magnet, as you said, which isn't difficult to construct. All you need is a core, some coiled wire, and a battery. More batteries wired to...

Electromagnetic Piston Valve

Here's the idea. An electromagnet would be installed around the exhaust pipe that the piston seals against. A switch would turn it on sealing the piston. Once the chamber was filled, the switch would be flipped again, firing the gun. Pros High Efficiency Switch Opperated Looks Cool Cons Heavy Piston...

definately go completly DWV. Holy crap! I can't believe I just said that. Whatever, yes, DWV. It's a lot cheaper. as he was saying, you could use t's and crosses to connect them together. Or you could just lash them together like any good boy scout. Just go to wikipedia, look up the formula for buoy...

Okay, now that you people have argued for four pages, let me settle this problem here. Buoyancy is based on the mass of the object and how much fluid it displaces . Therefor, pressurizing will not make it float better. Neither will filling them with foam. Pulling a vaccum won't really help because i...

WARNING: DON'T USE ABS OR BELL REDUCERS!!!
You're going to kill yourself. Unless you got the extremely rare, pressure rated abs and even rarer, pressure rated abs bell reducers, than this cannon is going to blow apart in your face. Don't use it!

I'm feeling for you on that one. I didn't have skin on my left hand from spilling a large volume of hot glue on it. Seriously, when you burn your hands you can't do a single thing with them guys. Even if he wanted to work on spudguns, I have a feeling he can't because he has a giant gauze wad on his...

oh yeah. Nice firstie gun. Next time remember to use bushings instead of bell reducers. Bell reducers aren't pressure rated(usually) and create a small(and usually insignificant in a first gun) saftey problem. Nice job.

sch 40 is safe around 100-150 psi. sch 40 is rated to 200ish psi but it isn't recomended to take it that high. I'd forget the sch 80 'cause it's way too expensive most times. Pistons usually won't seal when you blow into them, but once you hook it up to a compressor or if you're vigorous with a bike...
