I also tried using a torch but you have to really move the flame fast to keep from burning the pipe. I ended up using my heat gut... that I forgot I had

I understand what you are saying... Which is why I was wondering what the velocity of acetylene (combustion) is... If I recall from my military demo days, c-4 & m112 detonate at a rate of around 27,000 feet/sec (I think the only thing faster is petn or rdx) compare this to black powder at, I think a...

No Infernal2, I was disputing your statement that I must've gotten my knowledge from being an EMT...(or implying it) If you think that working in a hospital for 6 years doesn't put you in contact with people (ya, even smart ones, but just under your knowledge base) and equipment then you can't be as...

I'm very familiar with black / flash powder and the many nitrates that give it the explosive properties. There are dozens of oxidizers that can be mixed with powder to provide oxygen. Although acetylene may not need oxy to combust, it does make for a hotter, more unstable combustion. Look what happe...

hey... wait a minute! Why is everybody quoting me for something rna_duelers said (FiveseveN & pyromanic13 )!!! :? Listen, I've been fooling around with acetylene for 10 years... blowing things up and so on... it's really not that scary. I have used it a dozen times in sch40 pipe and never had a sing...

infernal- back to my original statement... breathing pure no2 will kill you within 3 minutes if a break hasn't been taken. I've only been in an ambulance once, when I was in a motorcycle accident. My knowledge comes from being an ultrasound technician for 6 years, working in the hospital, and a BA i...

Fiveseven- that's a cute piece of info you found on wikipedia, but you should do more research before you attempt to correct some one. Far before depleting the body of b12 will you die from brain asphyxiation. Breathing pure nitrous for more then a few minutes at a time will just about deplet...

Acetylene mixed with nitrous oxide...
Anyone ever try Acetylene mixed with nitrous oxide? I’m thinking I might try this combo with my steel cannon I’m building in a built-off with rna_duelers. I’ll be welding up ¼” thick steel pipe 4" dia. & a fuel delivery system from a propane fueled fork truck…should be fun! If my knowledge serves me...

rna_duelers I accept your challenge... :D I will begin a strenuous regiment of dieting and exercise in preparation of this challenge, I will study, learn and master the ancient techniques of the Chinese art of demolition... there will be simulations and drills, some may parish, some may run, but for...

That sounds like it makes good sense. So, I'll do a search for the formula to calculate the proper C:B ratio for a 5' 2.5" barrel. I like a smaller diameter barrel because it easier (and cheaper  ) to find projectiles. Also easier to reach supersonic speeds :D I have access to a ton of steel p...

this might be a silly question but...
I was drawing up a parts list for my hybrid last night and I got to thinking... The pressure should only get as high in the combustion chamber as it needs to be in order to push the "potato" out the barrel... So, if it only takes maybe 60 - 90psi to start moving that potato, which in effect also enl...

I was thinking I could add two small "L" shaped brackets to the bottom and fit them into a dado (sp?) groove that runs down the length of the runner. I could then mount a couple of springs in the grooves on either side connecting the front of the chassis to the front of the runner. Then I could also...
