Unfortunately, i can't say that I have any experience with db meters. If you get one, be sure to bear in mind the distance from the sound when you test. You should establish a set range to test sound from, so that you can accurately compare the performance to other things. You might know this alread...

My impression of how I would build one (ignoring the far more logical and cost effective option of pneumatics) would be to have the spring directly force a "hammer" that pushes the projectile out of the barrel directly. Essentially it would be like a pool cue hitting a billiards ball, with the ball ...

I have made a few pneumatic ones but I was just a little bit curious as far as spring power is concerned. My friend and I thought that perhaps (With some effort on 2 people's parts) the suspension spring from a motorcycle or dirtbike. That is, unless you could devise a way to make a gearing system. ...

Mechanical/Spring Powered Cannon
Has anyone here seen a good mechanically powered or spring powered cannon? i.e. elastic or springs to store potential energy. My friend and i got to talking today about one that would use a car suspension spring to impart the force on the projectile. On a golfball. Then, we got to talking about the ...

Acetylene as a Propellant? (Safe/Not?)
Has anyone looked into Acetylene as a fuel source? I'm thinking that it would probably be dangerous, but it can be made relatively easily (If you don't know how it's made, that's probably best...). I'm much more comfortable in the pneumatics section, so this was purely a curiosity question for those...

I like that idea, sounds like a more portable version of what i have tried with previous cannons. What I did was take a whole bunch of tall grass and twist it into a knot so it fit in the barrel, then pack it down and pour bb's over it. The resulting shot was impressive, but not portable/easy to do....

Four part question
Hello all, it's been some time since I have done any work as far as cannons go (once you start, you can never truly stop building them!), but I was looking at getting back into things. I was thinking about making a cannon with a sprinkler valve that shoots golf balls. Before I can get started, I hav...
