I was wondering, would melting down a huge candle in to many small barrel sized slugs work at all, or just desintergrate as soon as they left the barrel? Thanks,
Mav

I made some candle slugs and they worked quite well. I shot tem from a 1" barrel. I put chunks of lead in some of them and some small bolts were threaded in while the wax still soft. When I shot t hem at a piece of plywood the wax would flatten out and bounce off but the slug would go through.I made them using pvc couplings as a mold.

Wax is harder than rotten potatoes. I have launched rotten potatoes. The potatoes survived: wax will survive launch.
And taterjim - don't you mean PVC nipples? Couplers would form a slug significantly bigger than the barrel.
As to melting down candles, it'd most likely be cheaper to buy strait up parrafin. I don't know exactly where you'd find it... see if you can find the canning section of your store. If you can't find it, just ask an employee.

Ok thanks guys. I found about 10 small candles in my house the exact size of my barrel. I must first build my cannon, but as its rainy and wet, i dont realy want to be in my shed for too long. But ill tell you how it goes. Thanks all!

It should'nt, I mean, it would fit tight and to the barrell, but it should'nt be held back at all.
In answer to your question , I used a 3/4 " coupler to make ammo for a 1" barrel.. the coupler fits the OD and is larger than 3/4". It worked really well. I could put a piece of wax between 2 couplers and literally just twist it as I pshed them together.and it would shape the wax.
