I am SURE someone has thought of this before and probably has done it, but I may try it myself if I get around to it. Either full sized or "mini" billiards balls! I bet no ammount of spin causes them to hook as bad as a golf ball hooks. The heavy weight will likely cause them to fly pretty darn straight. Anyone try them?

Actually they dont over heat that much. I left one with about 3 leds and 3 batterys running over night, still glowing strong, and if anything, it cooled downsaefroch wrote:They will also overheat and fry in about 5 seconds. That's what this and this are for. So far as optical tracking is concerned, I think the best we can do is photoluminescents and such. But if you really want to track a projectile, I suggest a smoke trail of some sort.warhead052 wrote:Ok. I was thinking, what about regular super bright white leds? Just link em up to a few 3 volt button batterys and they will blind you.
It cooled because of the air temperature drop at night. What voltage were those LEDs rated for? Some white LEDs I've bought are rated to 3V, so it's not unlikely that a 4.5V current through 3 wouldn't do much harm. I was referring to a slightly more dramatic scenario. Using diamond heat spreaders, it is possible to match the luminosity of the entire cluster of LEDs used in traffic lights with only one, by just pumping higher voltage current into it. They literally ARE blinding.warhead052 wrote:3 leds and 3 batterys

These work pretty well I used some of my old ones as trebuchet ammo as well. They can be costly if you buy new but that's where eBay is your friend!Moonbogg wrote:I am SURE someone has thought of this before and probably has done it, but I may try it myself if I get around to it. I don't have any photo's or film of them from previous events but I'll add shooting one at a cinder block or car to my list of things to film with my new high speed toy camera

According to Mythbusters, using intact newspapers to make pycrete is far stronger than wood pulp. This is my version:
Get a segment of barrel material and lube it up
Roll up newspaper inside tube
Place tube in pan of water
Put in freezer
Alternatively, you can put an endcap on the bottom instead of a pan.

I threw together a few rounds today for my airgun with a 1/2" PVC bore. There are three of them. Each one uses a nylon spacer that has an od slightly smaller than my barrel but I can tape wrap them. I out three different length SS bolts through the spacers. The plan is to use my high sped camera to find out which one is more stable. What do you guys think of them? No measurement on weight yet. The bolt is wrapped with electrical tape to make them fit tighter, as you can see on the bolt in the middle.

... then post a request in that thread, no use in having two parallel threads on the same subject.
