1. Solder would make a very poor mold making material given it's low melting point.
2. Please read Spellcheck for Dummies before you post again.

EDIT: I see now that you are trying to make a projectile out of solder not make a mold out of solder.

If you do attempt this make sure you find "lead free" solder I would hate to see you get lead poisoning.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! are you seriously making a lead slug for a mini pen tube combustion! #1 thats dumb because those guns dont have enough power to shoot a lead slug far. #2 if its a pen tube use pencil erasers, airsoft bb's and if you are crafty enough ball bearings. If you are making lead slugs for a quality pvc pneumatic or combust then thats a good idea. Heat the lead up in a pan or so and then carve a mold out of a potatoe then dry it and i think that would be a good mold.

i shot one of those weights for fishing wif it and it was pretty powerfull. and its not a pill bottle its a coke bottle o and i already am shooting airsoft bbs right now im getting bored of and want sumthin more dense. so until i get my brakeline for .177 bbs i have to make do wif the pen tube

Ok heres a fucking idea mental, pay attention. How about, now call me crazy but instead of making bullshitter retarded comments on every topic you find that are usually 90% wrong on information, just dont respond. Instead of mental you should be named mentally retarded. Your doing no good to aiding the topic, other than being a complete asshat. (asshat = one who cares for no one and no thing but themselves, and does things to deliberately piss people off.) Who said the slug wouldnt be smaller than a BB? And also, the combustion of a pill bottle could still fire a slug of solder. Also, its not a lead slug, its a solder slug, unless you got your roll of solder a couple years ago, they no longer make them with lead i dont believe as it is unsafe. Please, do us a favor and think about your answers first.

Anyway, for the sake of staying on topic, i personally think it would be a nice idea, but honestly just not worth it. For one you need a way to mold the solder, and you cant use a pen tube to do it because it will most likely melt the tube and come out misshapen. A metal pen would work though. Also, you are probably better of sticking to BBs and Qtips due to the fact that the labor is really just not worth it when you could buy 20000 BBs at Dick's for 15 dollars.

P.S- You arent going to melt lead in a pan so much that it will flow smoothly into a good mold. You need what is known as a Lee, which would heat it to about 750 degrees. (BC pnuematics shared this with me, he has one) And good luck making a mold out of a damn potatoe...

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!! what a great responce. Why not just wait till you get the right barrel or swicth to a 1/2 barrel if its a full sized coke bottle and use marbles and ball bearings

Thats quite an original and imaginative insult, see i might have been a little off on the post but did i call him an "asshat" (<wtf) or mentaly retarded, i dont think so. And where i live most of the time solder IS LEAD, unlike the u.s there are no problems with it. And you donnt sound much smarter cursing, and my post wasent wrontg on information maybe in a perspective the solder thing was wrong, but you pms'ing isnt going to do much about it. Ive seen tons of posts on this forum with you telling people they spel wrong or critisizing them in some way. You have no right to tell me anything muchless insult me, YOU ARE NOT A MODERATOR so please leave me alone, i dont want to get into these little dumb fights with you.

Mental, you'r a hippocrit.

They are too, just for the record.

And the professor is wrong. They still sell the lead-tin solder... because people use for stuff other than pipes... like circit boards... and it's both easier to work with and cheaper.

Wait what? Blb what are you talking about. I didn't say anything about lead-tin solder.

"Also, its not a lead slug, its a solder slug, unless you got your roll of solder a couple years ago, they no longer make them with lead i dont believe as it is unsafe. Please, do us a favor and think about your answers first. "

Following that reasoning, cast-lead bullets don't count either, because they are frequently alloyed with antinomy. (for strength)

And if they ever made pure lead solder, chances are they still do. It's probably a rare product, though, as lead has a higher melting point than those eutenic tin-lead mixtures.

Oh that was when i was quoting(sp) mihrad. i have 4-5 rolls of pure lead solder and if your looking for lead just find tire weights that attach to the hubcap and melt those

Wouldnt the slug become deformed after being shot because of its softness?

Hey, I'm making a combustion with a 4"x16" chamber and a 1.5"x5ft barrel. What if i made a "solder slug" for that? How far do you think it would shoot, or even if it would shoot at all? If it did shoot, it would probably be a helluva kickback. Also, what could I use to make a mold aside from say plaster of paris or sumthing?

P.S. Sorry for kicking the semi old topic, don't eat me guys

Mihlrad: RFLMAO!

Yes, they do still make solder with lead and acid and rosin cores. Plumbing solder is labeled as 'lead free', so as to not poison your water supply. Acid and rosin core solders are used for other uses, such as electrical and metal working.

I too have considered using solder for ammo. I also know that it cost approximately $11 for 1 lb at Home Depot (last night), so it is not an inexpensive way to make your own ammo. It also does not weigh very much, unlike lead or steel. However, it melts at a very low temperature, and is soft enough to use with rifled steel barrels. It should work great with an old rifled air rifle barrel, if you can find one cheap.

If you want to try various sizes of round ammo, may I suggest going to Sportsmans Warehouse, or a local reloading supplier, and purchasing different sizes of shot gun shot?
