what resolution do you have on that beast? also, not to be picky, but some of the shots look kind of out of focus, is there anything you can do to remedy that. how much light are you using, because with 12000 fps you need a huge amount.
I second the shooting of the bottles.

There might be a little deformation when it first starts accelerating, but I wouldn't expect any as it comes out of the muzzle.starman wrote:I would like to see if there is any deformation of a golfball as it comes out of a high powered GB shooter...is the smack of the air or combustion doing anything to it shape wise?
Also, I know there has to be some deformation going on as it hits something really hard...plate steel or something....just be prepared for the ricochet.... Basically some GB deformation shots would be cool.
I might be able to catch some of the deformation against a hard object.
My mom always buys pumpkins as decoration for Halloween. For the past few years she has let me dispose of them.psycix wrote:You surely hate pumpkins dont you?
You had an high speed camera but didnt do something with it for a YEAR!? What the fap was more important then that!?
I've done quite a bit with it, just not as much as I would have liked. Like I said, I have more coming. As for what is taking up my time. Senior year of college (lots of projects) and looking for a job to have after college (not easy with this economy).
I'm just glad I wasn't in any of those shots, then JSR's comment would be really disturbing.POLAND_SPUD wrote: one more JSR related joke.... clide if you don't want JSR to fap then you shouldn't have showed those juicy holes you made in pumpkins....
Yeah, some are out of focus. I'm getting a little better but it takes some learning. Of course for a high speed camera you have to have your f-stop as low as you can get it most of the time which makes for a short DOF. The monitor is sometimes hard to see and I can't always see it from where I have the camera setup so I have to go back and forth between focusing the camera and looking at the monitor to see if it is focused.ramses wrote:what resolution do you have on that beast? also, not to be picky, but some of the shots look kind of out of focus, is there anything you can do to remedy that. how much light are you using, because with 12000 fps you need a huge amount.
It does need a lot of light. On a bright day I can shoot 2000 fps in the shade, but anything above that I need to be in direct sunlight. I would need more than direct sunlight to do 12000. The only thing I have been able to record that high on was firecrackers. I have a couple 500W work lights that I can use inside, but that will only get me to 2000 FPS.
I'll do some checking on the resolution, but I do know it is not good.
Thanks for all the ideas so far guys. I've seen a bunch that I like. Keep 'em coming.
Edit: The manual says the imagers have a 192x239 pixel NMOS array.
Then the vertical resolution is cut down for each step you go above 1000 FPS so at 12K FPS you only have 1/12 of the vertical resolution.
I pull the videos off the camera through a video-out port so I don't get them in the actual format/size it records with.

Is that "faps per second"?POLAND_SPUD wrote:you should film JSR waiting for epoxy to cure... in 1000 fps

Cool vydja. Not much more I can say really, given I haven't any specific ideas for things to see - anything in slow motion looks cool really, and I'm not fussy.

oh, I thought of a few things for you to try; dumping a capacitor through metal things, flamefront propagation, and mouse trap closure on a flesh analogue (cooked hot dog) And for some reason, the forum doesn't like it when I try to embed face book videos. oh well.
