I'm imagining that the stiff rod pushes the golf-ball from go to whoa, ...but how about a heavy piston like a hammer-face on the rod that doesn't contact the golf ball until the last few inches of it's stroke so that the elasticity of the ball is utilised?
Be wary of the forces involved, having a heavy thing attached to your string can be difficult to slow down, (and can bounce back and forth wildly after the shot) and smashing one of my carbon's into a golf ball while it was still anywhere near my forearm would be something that I wouldn't even contemplate*. (My new Bowtech 82nd Airborne pushes 85 ft/lbs though...)
