I'm quite sure this would work as is, but I can envisage a little spring loaded pin (at work so can't shot you on SW) in the sabot that pops out as soon as it leaves the muzzle, holding on to one of the shuriken blades and inducing rotation while the two entities separate.USGF wrote:If JSR's device could impart spin, it would work fine. We got them to stick in chipboard etc.

How about a pin to one side of the sabot that the shuriken must rotate around, imparting the spin. Just needs something to slow the sabot sufficiently.

The trick is imparting spin without slowing it down too much in the process!
If the sabot split from left to right, and the right side held onto one of the points perhaps it could impart spin, but it might alter the trajectory.
Best bet may to just make a mythbuster's-like card throwing machine to toss it!

Gents,
How about a sabot that has a clock spring type mech built in . Wind up the arbor against a ratchet. Place and launch the Shuriken. As it travels the barrel, a pawl release allows the spring to impart spin on the shuriken.
I could also see a version that has a lazysusan like rotating assembly that has a rubber tread that rolls down the inside of the barrel. Use urethane like a skate board wheel.
The third version is based on a batting machine. Only one side propels the star along a stationary side. I could see a long conveyor chain working against a rack like surface on the other side.
Another idea is use a cable set up like a yo yo. It would fly off the reel at the end of the barrel.
