While you may view this as lack of common sense, I think most would view it as paranoia. The backflash (check) valves, regulator, and pop-off are not required, I agree with you. But they sure can't hurt. They make glass sight tubes (used for water-level gauges on water well systems, among other things) rated to several hundred PSI. These would work fine for this application. The lexan tube I'll be using is even better. If you're worried about the glass breaking, you have a point, but isn't there also a risk of the clear plastic tubing you're using breaking/rupturing/tearing?
I understand why you may not agree with one or more aspects of my design but I don't find any of it to be "retarded" in the least bit... If anything, it just seems paranoid...
