I am installing my shiny new headers on Friday and I was wondering if anyone knew whether I need to use RTV sealant on the gaskets I got? They are felpros and they look metalized so I am not sure whether to apply wet or dry. Any help is much appreciated.

Nooooo, do not put any kind of sealer on any kind of exhaust gasket unless instructed by manufacture.

I hope you checked with your states emissions regulations before you spent your money, most cost around $250.00. Most states don't allow modified exhaust systems on ordinary cars/every day type cars. Usely ok on hot rod/street rod/historic taged cars/trucks.

The main problem with headers is burning the spark plug wires and being able to get to the spark plugs when tune up is due. They also tend to ride lower to the ground, so draging them over bumps is a common problem. I've even cracked the tubes because of draging them.

Unless your building a 1/4 mile race car, i recommend not using them. If your looking for more performance in a exhaust hop up, just split the exhaust leaving the stock manifolds on, this will up the power/acceration to a noticable difference with out causing the above problems.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response but since it is a 1/4 mile car, right now it does a 13.5 I am doing mid lengths and larger Y pipe. With an estimated 30 RWHP gain I think its worth at the sacrifice of some low end torque which I happen to have gobs of. LT1 baby, if you know what that is. Anyway, I wont be using any gasket sealant and maybe Ill put up some pictures on Friday.

PS The state is ok with it, but not running cats they aren't

yeah don't rtv your header gaskets unless you absolutley love the smell of burning silicone for about a week, if you are really worried about it sealing against the head, go buy yourself a second set of gaskets and slip them in with the first set and torque em down nice and tight
Yea, that's definitely going to get you at least a tazer.

OK you american imperialist (insert beep here) Id just watch the ditributor lines by either tucking them under the extractors or moving them around a bit more. Second just bolt em down nice n tight no sealant needed. Problem solved. Let us know ya fastest time :D

Just spent the entire day putting on the headers, had a few set backs; the passenger side was a bitch to get in and the alternator and starter had to come off. The dipstick was a royal pain in the ass but other than that it runs great now and other than the louder cabin noise now I love it. I out to do some speeding
