I'm 19 now, so I'll be better!
Stress 1: Large amounts of University coursework, coupled with a myriad other things I should be doing. This can be quite a big breakdown.
Obviously, the only way to get this to go away is to work on each piece of work one at a time, although often the big problem is that I can be too stressed to really get dug in. Usually if I'm really stressed, the single most effective thing to calm myself down is drawing.
Because drawing puts the right side of the brain in charge for a while, and the left half sort of has time to calm down and after I'm done, I can step back into the work with sort of a clean slate - relatively unstressed, and able to work on it more effectively.
So really, perseverance and drawing - good for a lot of situations.
Stress 2: As my father is still recovering from a long term depression, there can still be some frictions in the family. Usually, I end up having to be the person who has to sort this out.
In this case, my Asperger syndrome is actually something of a blessing. Because unlike most people I have difficulties in empathising naturally, I've had to develop alternate techniques to interact with people.
However, on the upshot, this means I can read people's feelings and emotions, but be emotionally detached and level headed myself, which means I can be a rational voice in these things.
So here, the solution is ironically the thing that often makes life difficult for me.
Stress 3: We have a canal boat, and the engine on it needs regular maintenance, and that was obviously not first and foremost in the designer's plans.
Yesterday, there were many hours of swearing between me and my father trying to change the thermostat and fuel filter housing.
The only solution here is thinking laterally around the designer's apparent braindead nature, gross misuse of tools, and making sure a you have a very large hammer to hand.
