well the second one is to some extent related...
First of all, it shows how the first one could be simplified (lol BTW that system of cams is soooooooooooo JSRish

BTW, for those who don't know, the second one is simultaneously opening and closing multiple carburetors. I had a motorcycle once, a Honda Valkyrie that had a 6 cylinder engine and 6 seperate carbs to go along with it. A device similar to this was used to sychronize all of the carbs.

the complexity better be intentional, you might as well throw in a robotic arm and a swinging mallet in there too
