Paintball "eyes" as photo-interrupter

I've been looking for a photo-interrupter as an alternative for the mechanical indexing switch used on my ARchangel. The ones I've found, though, only have a gap width of about 10mm and must be mounted awkwardly in order to read the position of the gun's barrels which are .625" diameter. I recalled that some paintball guns use similar breakbeam technology to detect whether or not a paintball is in the breech. What I don't know is whether they output a digital value as photo-interrupters do, or an analog value that is later interpreted by the gun's board. If anyone happens to know or can figure it out based on pictures of some eyes, I'd appreciate their help. Coding the indexing routine so that it checks for a certain range of analog values would not be worth my time and I'd stick with the microswitch in that case.

AFAIK the eyes operate only in conjuntion with the board of the gun, but I'm not entirely sure what your asking.

he is asking whether the output is a digital signal or an analogue value.... my guess is that it is a digital signal

consider checking the parts listed here - I think at least one of them is a phototransistor

unless we stop them now

"this is for most "digital" eye boards; analog adjustable boards will boost the detection range, however Morlock boards use a digital eye signal" (from zdspb site)
