try wrapping yor piston with electrical tape if it moves to loosly or wobbles around
i had the same issue with the blow gun because to much air was getting around the piston, so a wrap of masking tape solved the issue.

or ideally you could use a secondary diaphragm valve, a sprinkler valve would be great, to actuate the main valve. this in turn could be actuated with a blowgun. or you could just use a ball valve.

if you want to extend the barrel, simply add a coupler, they have perfect sealing faces too!

Don't give up when you're so close. That slot is far too big, if you piston isn't airtight then an equlisation hole is completely unneccesary, I agree with the suggestion that extendeding your barrel a little will hake it work.

I've just noticed another potenchul(sp) problem. The fill and pilot set up mite also be contributing because there isn't away to shut off the fill port. Look at the 1st picture, when you open the ball valve the air supply is just wide open filling back into the pilot chamber as well as out the piloting port. Anybody else notice that???

I did notice that but I just figured he shut off the air supply from the tank.
