These are some pics of a spud gun I've had around for a few years, made from industrial sch-40 300 psi rated; 35 inch by 2 1/2 inch tank. Plenty of power for down-range...5 blocks from my house to the soccer fields, not a problem getting anything there or past. 7 blocks to the hill over-looking the river(very steep, long embankment you'd die if you rolled your car down it),northward, gb's provide best long range ammo as they contnue climbing out of sight before they disappear.
[albumimg]373[/albumimg]
apparently the pics don't want to leave the album they're located in on this site...the pneumatic canon album...nothing electronic like computers and calculators, watches, cash registers, etc have ever willingly co-operated with me...on the other hand, animals and kids love me...
I love embarrassment...can I have another serving, please?:o

I somewhat doubt the range on a typical golf-ball cannon can even break 1/4 mile - you'd need to be launching at close to Mach 1 to do that (very difficult anyway), and getting a spherical projectile (even a relatively low drag one like a golf ball) out to a distance of 3/4 of a mile would require insane velocities, well beyond what a pneumatic cannon, regardless of it's design, could practically achieve without using a low density gas like helium or hydrogen at dangerously high pressures.TheMadMan wrote:so these send golfballs 3/4 mile. hard to believe.
Seldom will I see a claim of more than a 1/4 mile range from anyone, irrespective of their experience, without raising one eyebrow at least a few fractions of a millimetre.
Therefore, claims of projectile range are rated by how much my right eyebrow raises.
0 mm is a perfectly believable claim. 1mm is starting to sound a bit dodgy - but possible, and 2 or 3 is getting slightly suspicious, and 10mm is just totally ridiculous.
It's going before a committee next week to be standardised as a measure of BS - which could prove useful when talking to a marketing department.

OMG, you made dislocate my liver with that one.copperman wrote:It's going before a committee next week to be standardised as a measure of BS - which could prove useful when talking to a marketing department.
While feral did say 5-7 blocks you shouldn't assume they are standardized city blocks of 1/10 mile. Feral has a way of 'painting' his posts. 3960 ft is an awful long range. 300 psi in a 35 in. X 2.5 in. will only send a golfball about 1500 ft. max.themadman wrote:so these send golfballs 3/4 mile.
Feral, please post more details to help back your claims.

<Victorian_toff_accent> Dear Lord! Quick, this man needs intoxicating substances - to the local ethanol retail location! With a sufficient application we can surely get it back in place. Because based on Dr Ragnarok's observations, it was found that if anything gets drunk enough, in the majority of cases it will find it's way home, if by a slightly inefficient route. </victorian_toff_accent>bluerussetboy wrote:OMG, you made dislocate my liver with that one.

Whats the possible side effects Doc Rag?
I'm working on a pneumatic spud gun design that will send objects a very long way but unless the co efficient of drag is below .4 it won't even break the 1/2 mile mark. And thats being optimistic.
Currently I am doing a math report trying to figure out the optimal weight of a projectile for different co-efficients of drag at a given velocity to achieve the greatest distance. I'm actually having fun with it....

Usually some degree of skinned knees caused by concrete or rugs. It's been known to happen to both the male and female of the human species.Jared Haehnel wrote:Whats the possible side effects Doc Rag?

I thought perhaps periods of intense stupidity, possible vomiting followed by a deep sleep and waking up to a devastating head ache... over a period of repeated exposures one's liver my become pickled....

You don't need to. It's natural that when presented with information on a new subject that a person will believe what they're told by other people, and few people who were only new to the hobby would recognise the overgenerous nature of some range claims.TheMadMan wrote:boy, i feel like a sucker now.
I certainly wouldn't have recognised a 1/2 mile range estimate as "rather large" when I first started out.
Now, side effects of beer navigation (hereafter known as beernav) systems may include, but are not limited to loss of consciousness; parenthood; remorse; shortening of lifespan; a wish to hug all objects, no matter their speed, danger or resemblance to an articulated truck; an ability to see humour in bad jokes; feelings of immortality, not usually accompanied by actual immortality; improved French speaking; and singing of rubbish one-hit wonders.
However, it is speculated that the singing may contribute to the effectiveness of the beernav, because usually people seem to find their way back more effectively the louder they sing.

Should I post it for you?
Edit: huh... the album is screwy
Edit Edit: I think the only way you're going to get the pictures on here is to use another image hosting service or upload them directly in your post. It seems the album was not implemented properly and the actual image locations are also not accessible.

ever seen one of these?, but your right 3/4 of a mile would be near imposible with a normal gun.
