Rayovac Rifle

This is just a little "piece o' sh*t" I made tonight from some spare fittings I had lying around, a modded sprinkler valve, and a 1/2" ID steel barrel


Rayovac is the brand I use cause the battery's' quality sucks lol

It shoots pretty well at 80 psi and shoots surprisingly well at 120 psi (considering its small chamber volume). Shooting straight up in the air, it has an average of 8/9 seconds hang time and broke a 2x8" pine board in half. Not bad for a scrap parts gun lol. I tried to catch the battery one time after I shot it up in the air and when it came back down, I under-estimated its landing and it hit my thumb...

You can see the donut shaped bruise it left under the nail from the top of the battery. Hurts like a b!tch

I don't plan on a adding a stock or red dot sight or any of that, so don't suggest it lol. Just a scrap parts gun I made tonight cause I was bored. I will probably end up taking it back apart for one of my real projects....but until then, I can just fool around with this

Hey and are those copper air chambers rated higher than the pipe because they are called air chambers. Just wondering.
Looks kind of ray gunish to me. Any damage pics besides the thumb.

nice, i like the size of the cannon not too small but almost like a handgun. the copper air chambers are really nice looking as well.

I spent a long time wondering what the picture of your thumb was supposed to be. Then I read the description.
Looks and sounds good for a scrap cannon. What are you planning in doing for your next project?

this is a gun i could have seen from a newbie and said "that gun is really good for your first, you are on the right track"

but when it is you i says that it is also a good gun but it is even better if it is made from spare parts.

HEY STHORNE!!! Nice to see that you FINALLY built a pneumatic! It's pretty hott too...you need to build one out of PVC soon because PVC wins.

I'm currently in the middle of like 3 projects and haven't even started the rest of them. Most likely, I will finish the "Best Advanced Combustion Ever" (from my sig) first. It will have a different name of course lol.

I bought all the fittings seperate and put it together myself
They were all spare fittings though so its not like I had a design planned and bought all the parts according to them. It's just what I had and how it turned out.

Made some changes!

Added a quick connect/disconnect system to the copper chamber for easy storage. Also, it swivels in place and makes for a good "stock" (goes in your armpit but performance is the same). I will post pics shortly.

explain to me why PVC is any good at all for pneumatics?
Last I checked there were no PVC fittings for over 200psi, and you don't get into the fun range of pneumatics until at least 300. Pre-fridge compressor you may snub your nose at high pressures, but really there is nothing like shooting through a ridiculous amount of plywood in a single shot.

It's more fun when your expectations aren't as high..

So I think you need to lower yours and you will see why sprinkler valve guns are "fun".

Oh, I made one, and had a bunch of fun, but they are a step down from something like this, even ignoring the pressure limit of sprinkler valves. Metal is just so much cleaner looking than PVC could ever hope to be. In addition, it can be completely taken apart and redesigned with out having to buy new fittings, as you sort of demonstrated by swinging the chamber around to be a stock rather than compacting it.
