How Do You Make A Piston Valve?

This is a different question I came across.

Does the piston sit there and move along with the air pressure or does it have a rod through it and move along the rod with the air pressure? Or is it something completely different?

Most piston valves are operated by air pressure. There is no rod. The one exception is my QDV which can't open by venting the pilot area to zero due to the 1:1 ratio of the seal diameter/piston OD diameter ratio. The rod is used to trigger it instead of air pressure. Once triggered, it is opened by air pressure at high speed.

Ooh I see ok cool but its kinda weird that it would work like that. But yeah that pretty much answers my question thanks!
