The bleed screw can stay or be removed. If it is removed, the hole should be filled in. The hole drilled just needs to be able to vent the pilot area. Technically (if at all possible) it could be drilled to the side of the valve. But, yes, most people place the hole in the center (if there is no guide rod) for convenience.

Yes, leave the rod and drill the hole to the side of it. Take off the lid so you know exactly where to put it.

Well, you do have to pay a little more attention when tapping through a lid with a guide rod. Sprinkler valves will have a guide for the spring on the lid and you have to make sure that a fitting will not interfere with the spring, as some fittings will enter past the lid. I've done this and have been fine and some, and I've had the spring jam on others.stefano wrote:Ok thanks a lot for that FAST reply!!!
