Hey guys, first time builder here and have been researching site for a little over a week now. Have majority of my gun designed and parts bought except trigger mechanism. Plan for gun is
Tank-4" x 36" galvanized steel sch 40
Barrel-2" x 72" galvanized steel sch 40
Valve- 3/4 inch qev valve
Air source-helix air compressor
As you can see it is a mortar rather than a handheld. I would like to be able to trigger the release of the qev from a distance of around 30 feet. Does not have to be wireless. Any ideas? I have searched site and have not been able to find a way. Was planning on at first just hooking a ball valved onto hose near air compressor but am worried that will hurt qev performance. Thanks form the advice.

Tie a string to a ball valve or a blowgun and pull it to trigger.

I am sure a well lubed ball valve will work just fine. It has a high flow, and a QEV should be able to be piloted by a schrader or presta valve.
Maybe you can spring load the ball valve for smoother opening when pulled by a rope.
You can click the link in my signature to see a spring loaded ball valve. In theory you should be able to connect a rope to the trigger, and a short and gentle pull would be enough.

That would be the simplest answer, though it must be said, 3/4" QEV on a 2 inch barrel is not really going to give you great performance due to flow restriction. A 1.5 inch sprinkler valve would be a much better idea.Gun Freak wrote:Tie a string to a ball valve or a blowgun and pull it to trigger.

buy a remote control car and a solenoid valve. Wire a push button switch on the solenoid valve and have the steering servo hit that button.
or try this you will need a 9v in place of the 2 AA though

... that would be rather dangerous in terms of accidental triggering due to radio interference...Crna Legija wrote:buy a remote control car and a solenoid valve. Wire a push button switch on the solenoid valve and have the steering servo hit that button.

How much would one cost? Are you talking about a solenoid valve?jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:That would be the simplest answer, though it must be said, 3/4" QEV on a 2 inch barrel is not really going to give you great performance due to flow restriction. A 1 1/2 q e v would be perfect for this set up, and I think I know of a person getting rid of one at a very fair price. If you want more details, feel free to p m me!!

It says 18, but you can buy off amazon for around $10
It is wireless, can handle to amperage and voltage needed and super easy to hookup.
