Any time mate! Don't Worry about any of the fine-tuning electronics ie. the variable resisters and transistors. Just hook up the (+) and (-) to a 3V battery pack and your away. Use the collimating lens of a cheapo laser and put it all together in a project box, of course the shiney stainless clipped next to the barrel!

Sounds awesome! You know what else you should do? That old CD writer of yours... if you can be bothered... make an IR laser. It's kinda dangerous because you cant physcially see the beam, but with a camera on nightmode, it will light up ur target like a christmas tree! Just dont go blasting anyone for too long with that death ray

OMFG DONT GIVE ME IDEAS!!!

ill probably have both made and hooked up in the same casing with a switch to choose either.

oh question integral.. does it have to be a cd/dvd writer to work :?: or can i simply use a reader?

Any cd/dvd writer will work, but for the higher output you would want a diode from a writer. DVD writers give out the highest intensity (100mW+ stock) since they have to be able to keep up with the high speed rotations. CD diodes are more often than not IR but dont take my word on that. DVD diodes however are definately produce visible light.
