My First Two Cannons

My First Cannon
Chamber: 1.5" PVC pipe
Valve: 1.5" Ball Valve
Barrel: 2" PVC pipe
After a few days of stuffing different combo's of rags & wags, I finally got a golf ball to fly almost 100 yards give or take. My next cannon, I got a little more creative on.
Lauren
Chamber: 4" x 1.5" (including elbows)
Valve: 1" inch Rain-Bird Sprinkler Valve (not yet modded)
Barrel: Detachable 2" PVC
"Lauren" has not been fully tested yet, but as soon as i get results, i will update.
UPDATE: I know I used DWV fittings for the elbows. Please stop telling me that, I know the hazard of using them already, and this will be scrapped. Thank you

Pretty nice i guess. They are both good, well ok
. Umm idk if there are any dwv fittings on there but make sure there arent because those fittings are not pressure rated and therefore can blow you cannon apart 8) . This is a problem with newbs and even pretty moderate pneumatic cannon builders. Its not that we know its just that we forget
. But besides that i think they are fine. Well its time to mod your blowgun and i suggest looking at a how to in the how to sections and you should be all good once its modded. If you want better performance, you can also mod the blowgun which there is also a how to for. Good Luck.
Hope you find what you want 8)
P.S. Ohh and one last thing, you need to learn how to create a decent looking post rather than giving us all links. Instead of that, for photobucket, all you have to do is copy and paste the image code and thats it. ITS EASY
. You dont need to make pictures into attachements. Try it and fix your post

On the second cannon, it is full of DWV. This is not good. Don't take the pressure too high. Better yet, don't take the pressure anywhere. Rebuild the cannon and don't use DWV.
From what I can tell, both of the elbows and the reducer are DWV.

don't test lauren cus she's a bomb. I don't think you have a single pressure rated part on it. seriously scrap it.
btw: this DWV flaming will probably take over this topic, just like all the other newb's topics with pipe bombs in them.

Hey, give the guy SOME credit. Not all the parts are DWV. Just the ones that will take the recoil.
Oh yeah. When you go to rebuild "Lauren", you should modify the sprinkler put a brace between the barrel and chamber, where the strap is (to take unnecessary stresses off the pipe).

Agreed, take the valve, scrap the rest, it's not worth the risk.

Maybe you could take the valve off of "Lauren" (to use on another pneumatic) and convert what's left of her to a combustion.

I agree on the DWV thing. But apart from that, nice design and you did a nice clean job of cementing that all together. Good luck on your next cannon

Cool cannons. Don't worry...I had DWV (Drain Waste & Venting) on my first cannon and its not really all that hard to replace with pressure rated stuff. Just dont be going over 50psi with those DWV parts, and you should be fine.

how can you tell that they are DWV fittings? I had no idea, I thought since they were right along with all of the other PVC fittings and pipes in Home Depot, that they were?
EDIT: oh and nothing on My First Cannon is DWV. Everything on there has a pressure rating of at least 150 PSI. And as for the gauge for Lauren, I haven't had a chance to get it, that is one reason I haven't fully tested it yet.

you need to scrap the gun you call "lauren" because alot of the parts are dwv (like a bunch of others already said its basically a pipe bomb) it looks really good though.

We can tell your fittings are dwv because we know where you live and are spying on you atm.
anyways..
Did you use primer before you glued? If these are your first guns I wouldn't be suprised if you didn't, because most people don't know your supposed to when they start out. It's ok, just use it when you rebuild.
It shouldn't cost too much to fix the second cannon. The end cap on it is fine, I believe. Just get new elbows and a 4"x2" reducing bushing.
Also, drill through the pipe where the fittings double the wall thickness of the pipe when you install your fill valve. You managed to pick what is probably the worst possible spot
You do a lot of computer-related work, don't you?

DWV fittings look physically different than PW parts.
As you have been told many times, scrap the second launcher.
Good to see people finally jumping on the use of DWV on pneumatic cannons. There was a time when the first 5 people that replied would say nothing at all.

It's good to see people take safety seriously, but unfortunately it usually ends up as a DWV discussion. Nearly every post in this thread contains "DWV".
I agree that DWV is dangerous, however give the man some credit for effort. I'm sure his next cannons will blow these away, AND be safe..er

Dornep, it is important to encourage this person to try again, but I cannot give any credit for a launcher that was poorly researched and dangerously built. Every post that mentions DWV is one more post that the next person may come across when they are looking around this site for some information before they build their first cannon.
This guy has wasted his valuable time and hard earned money, not to mention put lives in danger. It is important to make an effort to prevent this from happening again in the future.
The efforts in warning against use of DWV in pneumatics is a dead horse that actually warrants beating.
