the TTP ( Tactical Target Pistol ) will be a 1/4" piston valve or qev pistol. I have spent most of my spring break thinking about it, drawing up its schematics, and researching parts I will order. I am having some trouble making the 1/4" piston though, have many people done that before and do you have any suggestion on making it?

i need suggestions though on what type of pilot to use to be able to put custom wood target pistol grips on it that i will make.

I would get some rod material like nylon, UHMWPE, or Delrin and just cut a section of it to suite your needs. As for the sealing face, glue a circular piece of sheet rubber to one side.

I also suggest hot glue, because they already come in 1/4" rods. Just take one and cut it. I think it is soft enough to serve as a sealing face too, so you won't need a separate piece of rubber glued to it

Hot glue is a good idea but make sure you can service it cuz it'll wear out.

If you want to make a piston valve you can make an epoxy piston and then just glue on the sealing face, but it would probably be easiest just to use a 1/4 QEV and pilot it by a blowgun, if you need to make it smaller you can always cut off the bottom section and carve a section out of the wooden handle

If you're only making a 1/4" piston valve, you should be able to pilot it with a simple schrader.

Just make a custom one that pushes the pin in on the scrader, you can just make one outa metal or wood. whatever you wanna do though.

Upload a pic on a picture host like photobucket, then hit copy the direct link to the pic and paste it into your post, then highlight it and click the button that says Img, and your set.

You could make a trigger out of some wire or some scrap metal. All you'd need is pliers or a dremel...

well my dad has a ton of tools its just a matter of talking him into letting me use them ( and most of the time wear them out ) for making my air guns . i really like the idea of a custom trigger but where can i get cheap pieces of metal from conveniently? i would also like to make the grip frame out of a rectangular chunk of metal and cut it to the outline of the grip without the finger indentions then make or buy the custom wood grips to attach on it just like on a real gun. that way i can change it on down the way if i choose to.

thanks! it aught to be nice for spending an entire day of my spring break designing! but will a 1/2" or 3/8" chamber be large enough and have enough volume to get some real power so that i can accurately shoot at targets from over 20-30 feet?

or small game from over 20-30 feet

No talk of shooting animals... It's in the rules.

Btw I'd go with half inch chamber. You'll get 30 ft very accurate with darts.

i was also contemplating putting a little mini reg on it and finding an adapter and pipe that fits around a 12 gram co2 cartage tightly so that i could get multiple shots... what do you think?

There's a variety of options for piston valves in small calibres, lately I've been cutting them out of solid subber sheet like in my mini 0.22" coaxial, pneumatic marker project and pengun V2. I've also used solid pistons that seal against a piece of rubber tubing epoxied to the barrel.

Remember that for small calibres, high pressure is important. For a 1/4" barrel I wouldn't use less than 300 psi, especially in a short barrelled pistol type weapon, I would recommend a cheap shock pump at the very least.

As it is your chamber is far too big for a single shot (because with a ball valve trigger you'll only get one shot), if you want multiple shot's you'll need to consider a somewhat different type of valve and pilot, have a look throughthis thread.
