I found about Spudfiles.com about 2 weeks ago and i was wow, i can build nice high power air gun, so i decided to go with the piston valve design. I plan on transforming it in an hunting rifle, or totally replacing it with steel components and take it to 1000 PSI, or more with a home made HP pump. its .55 caliber, 40 inch barrel with barrel action breech loading. it shoots 4 inch 16 gram/ 246 grain nail thru 3 inches of solid wood from 15 yards, i didn't go past 300 PSI . I have a 400 PSI shock pump. The piston is made out of a screw with rubber sealing head, floating O rings and integrated some plastic washer for stability in the brass nipple, and rubber and foam bumper. ill put a scope on it some kind of stock. The air tank is a 12 inch galvanized steel pipe , and the volume is 150 ml, or cubic centimeters.
The piston has Teflon tape under the nuts, so the seal is perfect, this rifle will fire at 10 PSI, or 400 PSI. I get my scope soon,

Got any pictures? It could be possible to take down medium sized game with some homemade missile like rounds.

Congratulations on your gun. Before you jump to 1kpsi, you should consider that 1000psi in a fair size volume isn't just some random number that sounds cool in discussion. It's a whole lot of pissed off power searching for a place to escape.

I apologize to those who posted respectful replies warning the OP of the dangers and illegality (on this forum anyway) of hunting animals with a homemade weapon. Some of you may have included niceties about this particular gun in your reply so I'm sorry that they were deleted due to the included content of hunting animals in the same post.
PimpAssasinG,
Don't be a dumbass. You will either get yourself killed or you will seriously maim an animal with what you intended to do. Frankly, if your death wouldn't shed bad light on this forum, I'd prefer the latter of the two. I'd pay serious attention to velocity3x's post as well.

PimpAssasinG wrote:well i didn't know its illegal to assassinate whit air rifles, or that is illegal on this forum, but you can buy air rifles to assassinate, so why would that be illegal?????, and by the way shooting at object gets boring fast,
I told you to read the
RULES.
Not only does it tell you what is legal and 'illegal' to discuss on this forum, it also mentions that discussing explosives is not allowed.

anybody know the PSI rating for galvanized pipe and fittings, safe working pressure??????? what about brass is it weaker or stronger

1000PSI would be safe enough for galv. iron, I wouldn't risk it with brass though.

pilot volume is kinda big, should put a spring so you can put it where the chamber is

That piston looks way to ghetto for 1000psi, the rated pressure for these pips is 150psi, but many have taken it way passed that. I would go buy stainless pipe and fittings only because they wont rust and eventually weaken the pipe.
someone might wanna edit the first pic's Description.
