Hey,
i just remembered that i'm registered on spudfiles, so i thought i could share the few guns i build with you.
This is the first one: A cigarette gun. It's a QEV triggered pengun, that uses a shrader valve for reloading and firing. The pressure I use is 30bar (435psi). It's 3mm caliber.
I found a cigarette paper and it looked like a 6mm/8mm alu pipe would fit inside, so i took one and it really did.
I cut it at the length of the cigarette paper minus the length of the shrader valve. I epoxied a shrader valve into the end of the alu pipe.
The barrel is a 3mm (inside diameter) brass tube. As a piston i'm using a small aluminium cylinder with a rubber sealing epoxied to it.
And this is the result:
It can be triggered with basically everything. On lower pressure even a fingernail. I'm shooting nails and toothpicks. Steel balls would also be cool, i've to find some 3mm steal balls=)
It was so simple to build, the shrader valve already fits inside the 6mm/8mm tube. The whole build took me 3 hours, if not less:)
And here's a video:
Please comment, ask, criticise, give advice, whatever!
I'm going to post two other 30bar penguns soon, both are ball pens 2mm cal.
=)
30 bar cigarette gun=)
Very nice!
The firing of schrader valves always seems so awkward, I wonder if it would be possible to make something that screwed into the little bit of thread that is exposed inside the valve body (that the actual valve itself screws into) that could be used as a more secure way of venting it?
I've seen loads of people who have put caps around the outside of the schrader but this would be a bit more streamlined. Just a thought.

Take one of those athletic mouth guards and glue a small pin on it, so it looks like you're smoking the cigarette, but in reality you can trigger the gun with the pin

@Talk, try refreshing your browser while on this page. Run file clean up, at least your browser temp files. It's been my experience running file cleanup fixes this issue. I use IE9.

No i didnt use the upload attachement. I'm using a external picture uploading service as you can see in the URL.
@sagthegreat nice idea! How are these things called?
@Tep If i'd have something that fits inside, to pump it up, i don't have a valve to hold the air inside

^This or you can cut an earbud in half ,take away the cotton ,insert a toothpick through 1/2 of the little pipe (so you don't crush in between your teeth). Hold that cotton bud between teeth and use the other end to push the schradar open , which will still make it look like you were just smoking/about to light it(if you carry a lighter).Take one of those athletic mouth guards and glue a small pin on it, so it looks like you're smoking the cigarette, but in reality you can trigger the gun with the pin

Hey talk, thank you very much! it fits&works perfectly!:) Thanks!! It's much better, because otherwise i had to use two hands, and the small trigger cap, and i had to push the cigarette paper away first, from the valve.

This is really nice work!
Out of curiosity, why a cigarette? Seems like a pen would give you more barrel length, thus equaling a higher velocity for your projectile. Plus, it would have the perfect firing mechanism... the pen's clicker.

@mako
I have made penguns already, and I wanted to get into making self contained cartridges, so a short version of a pengun seemed appropriate.
I don't like cigarettes btw
