Quickest way to depressurise a pilote chamber

since I dotn have acces to sprinker valves, what is the best way and of course, the quickest way, to depressurise the pilote chamber of a piston valve ?

I was thinking using a second piston volve to do so.

Not good enough. Blowguns make horrible pilot valves for your average barrel sealing piston.

Your idea would work, you would just need to make a small enough piston valve to where the blowgun would pilot it.

Ball valve with a spring,crude and works well.Nearly impossible to break aswell.

I used just a blowgun, but that wouldn't work. It depressurises the chamber as well. Then , the piston wasn't good enough to, but the blowgun has a small hole. Maybe that's why it didn't work.

Ballvalve works good, but it isn't handy. I want something estetic to, and a ballvalve is everything, but estetic :wink:

Hmmm so true,maybe get a QEV and use that to pilot it but that is if you are willing to buy a QEV just for that job.But usually i would rather go peformace over looks because simply i like my guns to work..lol..

Did you try taking the nozzle off the blowgun? I heard that helps. You could also use a diaphragm valve to empty the pilot chamber, I heard they open faster than piston valves and are easier to make.

you beat me there, wtf is a diafragma valve. Got to look that up :?
So they are home made, (so not expensive) and the work faster than a piston valve.

The nozzle is taken of the blowgun already, got that one figured out myself :wink:

@ rna_duelers : yas, working is more important than looks, but I dont think a ball valve is very good. I dont have much experience with blowguns, but it seems so, that the gun loses (to) much pressure due to the ball valve. To slow in opening the pilot chamber.
Well, maybe with a spring, guess I'll try that one out.

Edit : ok, ik found out what a diaphragma valve is. Seems easy to make, just have to find the right material of melt some rubber and make one thick enough. I think I am gonne try the last one tomorrow :twisted: Seems fun ...

If that works, then I can make som rubber sluggs to for the gun :twisted: :twisted:

Hey its cool that this is under discussion bc Ive been thinking about this very thing. I can get sprinkler valves but its a pain in the nizzle and I don't want to anyway. What I came up with are two simple options. The first is to make a simple dump valve by finding two pieces of pipe that fit inside each other well , say like 1" and 1.25" (you have to sand the 1.25")drill a bunch of holes in the 1" and the 1.25" covers the holes until you slide it via a lever or something. I've tried playing around with a 1" ball valve, but all the ones that I've found are damn hard to open, so I havent been able to rig one up, say with a spring or something. I did find this cool brass valve that I'll post a pic of later that works *GREAT*. Maybe you can find one like it where you live probably for very little cash. I also have had zero success moving any of my pistons with a blowgun or even one of those safety pressure valves with the pull ring and they flow pretty well.(the kind that is on a compressor as a safety feature). I'll post that pic a bit later tonight.

Tryed to melt some rubber today. The only result is that the whole house stinks like burned rubber. So I didn't succeeded yet in doing that ...

Well if there is to much air comming out from the exhaust port then maybe you should look at your piston design so it doesnt let so much air past and out the exhaust from the actual chamber.

Campbell Hausfeld makes 2 simular blow guns, 1 small valve port, (red thumb cover) the other is a large valve port, (blue thumb cover). I just got the large 1 the other day at wal-mart in a multi-piece kit. I never knew the difference untill i needed it for my cannon, then i got to compare the 2 side by side and the 1 with the blue cover was wayyyyyy bigger!

The moral of this post-LOOK FOR THE 1 WITH THE BLUE THUMB COVER!

ill have to look for those blue cover ones, ill probly need one for the pneumatic im building which is using two of the 1" sprinkler valves.

I changed the piston now. When I shoot the gun, the piston closes the pilot chamber. No more airloss

I don't think you're supposed to melt rubber for a diaphragm valve =p, it's just a piece of rubber. I'm not sure what material people use, I heard something about using a cutout of a tupperware container, or a piece of neoprene rubber.

That's for a coaxial gun, for a tee valve, it should be pretty similar.
