Nice gun! Don't worry about not using transparent primer, most people don't! Only reason I do is because I've got a huge can of the stuff.

What kind of epoxy did you fill the solenoid hole with?

It is two part "5-minute" epoxy. As for the actual name or chemistry, I forgot. It comes in a twin syringe container that makes it fairly simple to get the right mix. I'm leaving it overnight now to set hard and I'll test it out tomorrow (The seal looked weak when I first epoxied it, so I screwed in a spare solenoid to block it off until I sealed it properly a few hours ago)

you have some minimal dead space b/c you put the valve after the chamber whereas if you put it after the barrel it reduces dead space. but other then that nice gun and it would look even nicer with a good paintjob

edit:what type of valve is that and where did you get it from?

Nice gun, maybe add a barrel support between the chamber and barrel as the barrel seems to be bent down.Which country are you from? And those large marbles are scary shit out of a 25mm barrel.

It is a "HR" valve, I bought it from Myaree hardware in Perth, Western Australia. This is the datasheet for it. The one I have is the smallest one, HR25. I remember thinking about that dead volume when building it. I can't remember why I didn't put the valve just before the barrel because that would solve my issue of things falling down the U turn without a sabot.

Yeah, the barrel is bent down because I was mostly interested in getting a strong, reliable bond between the components. I didn't want to upset the glue by bending it. The barrel is held against the chamber with some metal ties, but if I ever get around to putting that laser back on I might incorporate it into a proper support made of sheet PVC.

would a blow gun improve it?

Dang this is nice. I like it alot. For your chamber and barrel you should add a support to hold the barrel steady. The diapram (sp) does look a little heavy for really fast acuation. I like the picture of the battery but dont get any of the acid on you!

I doubt a blow gun instead of a ball valve would make a lot of difference, since the blow gun is pretty much a ball valve with user friendly trigger isn't it? My friend uses one for actuation too and it seems to work okay for him. I think the limiting part would be the tube and barbs, as they only have a small diameter for the air to travel though.

I could upload some damage pics but they aren't too exciting compared to some other stuff I've seen here (Potatos going through a car bonnet?!?!). This is because I have not pumped it up to a particularly high pressure.

I did upload a clip a while ago, when I was using a solenoid for actuation. Here is a clip of two wine bottles getting shot at with one of those marbles I mentioned. Notice the laser beam on them before firing ;) I spent about 6 shots against the cardboad adjusting the laser for accuracy before that. Also, here is the same clip in slow motion.

I used some cheap 5-minute epoxy as mentioned above, not Araldite. It seems to have worked fine under pressure yesterday.
