So, I've been building a 2 inch tee piston valve with 1.5 inch porting
and I've been kind of troubled by a question. How far in do I insert the barrel for optimum performance? I have been searching the forum for the past couple of days and haven't come up with any relevant topics. All help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
Simple piston valve question

if the piston comes to rest against it in the position the piston is in in the second photo it should be about right.
some efficientcy tips, if you're looking for optimum performance: shorten that blowgun hose and attach the sprinkler valve to the back of the Tee, avoiding the extra pilot volume in the elbow.

*gasps* Jack didn't comment on the giant pilot volume?
But yeah, If you cut down on that pipe and shortened the volume behind the piston, it would actuate faster. Nice valve though, good to know that you did your research, and you used primer, which is a + in my book.
Edit: Dammit, you edited in some of your efficiency nazi'ism.

excuse the delay, I was still in shock from the enormous amount of wasted air, the pictures burnt my eyesModderxtrordanare wrote:Edit: Dammit, you edited in some of your efficiency nazi'ism.

is that a swivel joint connected to the sprinkler????? if it is i have never seen one of those for barbed fittings..
thats a nice piston valve the barrel isnt in the perfect amount but it looks like it should do..wahts ur piston made from??

I've got one, its a ~300psi hose with a 0-200 regulator on it. His is the same thing but he either took his regulator off, or it never came with one. Swivel joints ftw.spudthug wrote:is that a swivel joint connected to the sprinkler????? if it is i have never seen one of those for barbed fittings..

w2tf r u talking about? i asked if it was a swivel joint....I've got one, its a ~300psi hose with a 0-200 regulator on it. His is the same thing but he either took his regulator off, or it never came with one. Swivel joints ftw.

Well, up until a few minutes ago I forgot that the hose was a 3/8" hose on the male side ( I had it in my mind it was 1/5") so i just removed the hose. When I went to homedepot to buy the parts, on the polot side of the valve I could not find a reducer to go directly down to 1" so I had to buy a DWV and buy a reducer, because If I'm going to have that empty space, the piston might as well be able to move in it. Now I'm second guessing that thought, but am still searching for a reducer that fits in the female end gets rid of a good section of dead space. Do you know where I could find the same part this guy uses

That big gray thing that looks like a hose. I have one. It's rated to ~300psi and has a swivel joint on it. But mine has a regulator on it.spudthug wrote:w2tf r u talking about? i asked if it was a swivel joint....I've got one, its a ~300psi hose with a 0-200 regulator on it. I don't know what you didn't understand.
