my dad is very smart and can make anything out of anything, but he is very spectical about how the mod. sprinkler valve works. if any one could help me out that would be great...

you opened it up to show him the innards right. tell him the blow gun releases the air from on top of the diaphragm and allows the bulk of the air to flow through the valve

and say that the blowgun acts in place of the solenoid.

no i haven't shown him the innards because he doesn't want to spend 20 bucks for a sprinkler valulve that he thinks wont work... but he said when he figures it out we will get one... but i totaly disagree with my dad... i will still tell him wat u told me too and i will see if that works...

You have pressurized air on the top and bottom of the diaapragm. When you open the blowgun, it releases air from the top of the diapgragm, allowing it to open quickly.

Or just show him a video of someones cannon that uses a sprinkler valve, that really works well!

this is a noobiew question but the blow gun us the "trigger" right????

The blow gun is esentially the "trigger". It looks like this: http://a444.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/im ... d209cb.jpg (Its the silver thing on the side of the pvc) It is the thing that releases the air from the pilot area and allows the air to flow through the valve into the barrel.

my dad thinks that when u realise the air though the sprinkler valve it would come out the bottom of the blowgun.... is that true and if not could u prove it???

No, when you open the blowgun, it only releases the air from the pilot area (which is very small), and then the main air pushes up the diaphram and allows the main air to flow. It works that there is only a small hole (pin sized) in the diaphram to allow air through, so there isnt enough time for all the air to escape through the blowgun. Every sprinkler valve is living truth of this!

It doesn't all come out, just enough to pilot it. The rest takes the path of least resistance, out the barrel. The pressure of the air keeps the diaphram (sp?) in the open position. Only a little teesny bit comes out the blowgun, it hardly wastes any air.

The only air that comes out of the blowgun is the air that is on top of the diaphragm. There is pressure on both sides of the diaphragm, along with a spring on top of the diaphragm. When you release the air from the top of the diaphragm (with the blowgun), it makes the pressure on the bottom of the diaphragm greater, lifting the diaphragm, allowing the air from the chamber to pass through the valve.

I'm surprised no one posted a diagram.
