how bad is it really to shoot a potato gun (with hairspray) in like 29 degree weather...i heard 32 degrees is pretty much the lowest you should go, but 29 isn't that much colder...also it hasn't been sitting outside so it isn't cold to begin...

Its fine aslong as you don't stay out in the cold for long... its just common sense really.

The hairspray will turn to a liquid when it is that cold and it probably won't fire

I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but does anyone know if it would be safe to use a PVC barrel in cold weather as long as the valve and air chamber are made of metal?
It's hard to soar with eagles when you're working with turkeys.
just as long as the pvc is not around ambient temperature i wouldn't let the pvc get below 40 degrees before warming it back up

I need to start a campaign to end the use of hairspray for combustion cannons. Waste of time, time energy, and money. Use a fuel like butane or if you want to / need to stick to aerosol, go with Static Guard or tag or something. As far as firing in 29 degree weather with PVC goes, I wouldn't shoot too much. Not more than a few shots before bringing it back inside. Cold plastic gets brittle dude. Anyone know about cold ABS? Does it get brittle same as PVC? I don't use ABS so I wouldn't know.

I have shot the swat many a time in the cold michigan winter.
the lowest was probobly around 13*F, but I rarely take it above 40-45 psi.
I have my bb rifle to shoot in the winter, though, so I usually use that.

well it went ok, but it didn't really work since i broke the ignition cable...sooo....i'm going to try a lantern sparker..found one at dicks sporting goods for $1 each!

You will lose pressure with your propane and your gun will be extremely brittle. -30 is very cold.
