well now i know my buddy is telling me fibs now well thanks for giving me all of that info.
well did measure how a normal tennis ball went it was 140 meters . which now where near 1/4 of a mile.
hey one more question if you made a bigger combustion camber with a longer barrel would the tennis ball go faster and further.
Any way do you think australian cannons are better built that american ones cause i have noticed that the american cannons have lots of tape on them cause they have to find a way to insert the BBQ igniter and with
australian there are two screw caps so on is to unscrew and spray the gas in and the other is to install the ignition system in i just think the two screw cap system is neater and safer to work with.
making your projectile go further

I've seen brilliant and sh!tty cannons from both countries, it's hard to generalise.

Unless you can find the projectile you fired (and at the point of impact with the ground, not where it eventually rolled to a stop) and reliably measure the distance from where you fired it, all such claims will be stored here:

well i know for a fact that tennis ball did go over the speed of sound mach 1.1 and it went right over that will wich i know is 500m where i was shooting.
Look if your jeasous about my TB goes further dont be shy to tell me .
this is not bullshit and it didnt roll either but if it did then it would of being way further and some went over the hill and we never got them back

How do you know which ones are from where?ROCK SOLID wrote:Any way do you think australian cannons are better built that american ones cause i have noticed that the american cannons have lots of tape on them cause they have to find a way to insert the BBQ igniter and with

The two screw cap idea you are saying, originated in America if i'm talking about what I think you are.
Honestly, i've seen more Basic Combustions that look better from Americans then Aussies, it's hard to say, but the ones on this site are usually good. The bad ones are by people who think filling a tennis ball with butane will improve distance.
Also installing the igniter in the end cap is a significant flaw, they can blow out very easily and weaken the end cap as well. That's why most people don't install them there.
Oh and you didn't shoot a TB 500 meters with a combustion, it may be possible, but with your knowledge, I doubt it. (Not saying you don't know anything, just saying you don't know enough)
Edit: You claim you sent a TB the speed of sound... JSR how many of those BS paper bags do you have left? I'm gonna blow

Ok boys I appologise for Rocksolids remarks and statements.
Hey I'm the guy next door.
Unfortanatly he dosent open his ears when we have a chat.
It wasent a mile it was at least 1km from a camping area on a headland over a river to the mainland. It wasent a "basic" cannon as he claims. It was the colmanation a few cannons me and my mates had been working on. Steel chamber steel barrel. and a spark plug ignition running off a ignition coil in a car and high octaine fuel. The barrel had been riffeled and the tennis ball was weighted and had a glow stick smeared on it so we could see where it went.
We mesured on a map as the crow flies and figured we did have a good tail wind helping us out. I didnt explain this to him as i had said to him that i had seen cannons that could do this distance quite easly. i didnt want him experamenting unsepervised as he is a young lad.
As fo the cannon that goes 500m thats my cannon on a good day mine is a bit more modified than his as he is just starting out.
As for tennis balls breaking the sound barrier........not a tennis ball it was a glass drink bottle aprox 600ml on volume and 65ml in diamiter at the base. with these bottels I have had a sonic crack as the bottle had left the muzzel this has only happened a few times once with rocksolid present. but mostly they are sub sonic.
Sorry for any confustion guys.

I think thats somewhat ironic bubba, but what do you use as fuel and what are the specs. Did you post the gun here?

You know, he could probably still eke out two pages of replies about it, even now.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

As to bovine excitement piling up, I'll just share with you the disturbing vision of Farmer Giles opening the milking shed to be faced with a torrent of warm fluid, that isn't milk
