still working on my monster cannon, but here is my cool grip

like the title says my cannon is still under construction. I am planning on using it like a crew served weapon ( I am a Marine Corps Infantryman so i do know what I am talking about). I still need to build a tripod to mount it on and i need to finish the cannon still but here is a little bit of my progress on its path.

I mde a grip frame that is similar to the grip frame on a Browning M2 machine gun but instead of having a butterfly trigger on it i am going a different way for a little safety. This frame is far from complete but it is getting there.

note that the pipe sticking out of the back is not glued on there. I used that as a prop for the pictures but the t that it is sticking out of and the one on the bottom will be usd to mount it on the gun

Looks like a good start.

The double trigger is an excellent idea.

A suggestion: Add a third trigger (you could then drop one of the thumb triggers). I would think you want the two triggers setup such that it is impossible for a simple surface (like the floor, someones forearm etc.) to trigger both switches. So, move one of the switches to the opposite side of the handle so that the fingers of the other hand close the second switch. That way it is less likely that setting the gun down on it's butt will trigger both switches. And, if someone leans on the handle it'll be much less likely that both switches are closed.

You could also do three swtiches, two thumb and one finger, or even four.

Or drop the second thumb switch and use a thumb and a finger switch on the same handle. The fingers of the trigger hand must be wraped firmly around the handle in order for the thumb switch to be active.

Another possibliity would be to cover the triggers with trigger guards that you can slip your thumb under. That'll keep the switches from being closed by pretty much anything, except the gunner's thumbs.

One more thing, is this really a good setup for a "monster cannon"? Do you really want to be standing behind it when it is fired?

well when I fire this thing, much like on an m2 machine gun, it won't be from anything less than a sandbagged tripod. I have also thought about putting a small recoil absorption system into the tripod to help manage its recoil.

I have no doubt in my mind that this bad boys gonna kick, especially with the heavier rounds I am designing for it. but as plans go, this thing will be a fairly stationary system and not one that I am gonna lug around everywhere.

I had thought about doing 4 triggers but unless I can find some good looking momentary on switches with a trigger pull similar to a grill ignitors but maybe half the total pull weight required then i'm not sure how i'll do it. maybe some microswitches and paintball gun triggers with heavy return springs and magnets will work for me.

Is the handle part of the pressure envelope (i suspect it isn't). Perhaps install a roller switch (aka snap action switch) inside the handle with just the metal bar exposed as the finger switch. That's very similar to how the throttle setup works on my weed wacker. You can't move the throttle unless a hand is firmly wraped around the handle.
