I think....
1. If you drop it down i doubt it will have enough force to burst
2. Messing with shotgun shells inside of pipes like that is very unsafe
3. Use a burst disk pneumatic.... much safer/ reliable (sp)

I agree. If i were you i wouldn't mess around with shotgun shells it's very unsafe it's like your asking to be blown up by a pipe bomb.

Do you know what a under over set up is? All you do is make that with a sprinkler valve but dont modd it. Then at the base off you barrel put 2 screws in there so this way when your metal object hits the screws it willl open the sprinkler valve.

Dang that is a good idea i never thought of something like that... but how would you do it if you wanted to fire something that didn't have metal on the bottom to connect the srcrews...

Take a air compressor or a redulated CO2 set up and add a pressure switch to it and a nother sprinkler valve and have it at say 100PSI so it will fill up after each shot. and bam you got a simi auto mortar canon

I think talk of solid propellents is against forum policy...

Not to mention this is one of the most unsafe ideas of read in a while.

if you want it to look like a mortar the best bet for a pneumatic with trigger switch screw thingys at the bottom would be an in-line pneumatic
like a combustion but just with compressed air and a sprinkler valve.

if you are using solid propellents you could buy a dummy/used/inert mortar round from a surplus store and build it like a normal gun,or research mortars and copy their method if you have the money
