Hi guys
I am new to this forum and need some advice from you experienced guys.
(btw please forgive me my bad english, not a native speaker)
So I want to make a Spud gun that is very powerful, compact, fast and efficient at the same time...
I searched a lot on the web and on this forum but couldn't find much inspiration and so i came up with my own design :bounce:
my gun is split into two parts :
the combustion part and the receiver/bolt action part

let me show you my concept for the combustion part:

I've got a big combustion chamber with a male to female peace on one side so i can screw the back of the receiver in. (in this picture the middle section tube)
Above this tube are two similar systems next to each other - one for air and one for butane gas.
they are welded into the combustion chamber with a check valve in the front (to keep the pressure out while shooting), a QEV valve with a gas reservoir, a slide valve to pilot the QEV and an air tank or butane bottle with gas regulator.
A steel rod is attached to the slide valve to pilot it with the Bolt.
This system works like a multishot pneumatic cannon an fills the combustion chamber with fresh air/fuel.
There is also a spark plug with a piezo igniter. (i might use an ignition coil instead)

Now the Bolt-action:

the action works really similar to a common Bolt-action Rifle
and i will use pipes and flat metal to make it :D
there is a hollow bolt pushing the shell (made from small PVC tubing?)
out of the magazine onto the "ramp" and into the chamber. It locks in place by pushing the bolt handle down into the locked-position
Now you can fire and the gas will propel the Bullet trough the Barrel.
For reloading you pull the bolt back again and the extractor spring will pull the shell out and the very long ejector rod will eject it to the side trough the ejection port.
Now the bolt is behind the magazine and a new round pops up and can be pushed into the chamber.
The receiver is split into two parts for better assembly and disassembly.

For refueling there is a contraption made from a tube on the outside. It is connected to both slide valves in the back with a rod.

If you pull the bold handle back for reloading, it will push the part back and the attached pilot rot will activate the slide valve and let air/ gas into the QEVs reservoir.
If you push the bolt handle forward again to put in a new round and close the action, you'll also push the front part of the pilot forward and the slide valve will release the gas from the reservoir into the combustion chamber and the gun is ready to fire again.

Now my question is whether this would work or not :idea:
Is there anything i could improve?
or are there simpler methods to do this?

This is incredibly detailed. And I like the general idea but may I suggest a simpler way?

With the right mechanism you don't need shells. Find a way to fill the bolt with gas when you pull it rearward. Then move the bolt forward, as the bolt closes the shell into the chamber, the front of the bolt opens behind the shell and the gas waits for ignition.

Quite often you can achieve what you want without extreme levels of complexity. And safer.
