That's what I've been doing. I seal the edges of the hole either with high-temp RTV or expoxy. I don't really want hot gas to burn my fingers as I'm pressing the trigger! For the gap, I solder a short length of solid wire to the rear electrode, bring it up to the point and cut it off, then bend it so it makes about a 3/16" gap. Pretty much works every time. Anyways, he did mount the ignitor inside the chamber. It doesn't exactly need a massive hole, and it would barely need any wiring since the electrodes are already exposed to the combustion gasses. Mabye just a bit to modify it to create the electrode gap.
