If it can't run off a battery how can you wedge it onto yer cannon.

True, really don't want to have to plug it into the wall.

But there is a hack to convert a standard 120VAC compact flourescent to battery power. So it should be possible to use the high frequency oscilator and voltage step-up functions of the circuit but power it with a battery + inverter.

I wonder if there is anything useful in a cheapo battery operated flourescent lamp? Like http://www.carparts.com/WOLO-BATTERY-OP ... _10618.car

I just looked up the parts for the C3 in onhttp://www.tippmannparts.com and found the C3 under "discontinued markers" Can anyone confirm they stopped making the gun? If so it may become hard to get your hands on the parts

Also if you want it, buy it here (this is just the circuit as far as I'm aware)

Looks like it is discontinued. It's not on the product list on Tippmann's website.

That doesn't necessarily mean it is discontinued, none of the alpha black guns are on there

I'd heard a fair number of game sites had said No to the C3, and of course there was a lot of talk on various paintballs websites about how dangerous messing with propane and air was..... oh if only they knew.

Hotwired, in your circuit is there any "recharging" time? Or will it produce a spark everytime you ask it too? I'm looking for something that will produce a spark(s) everytime it's triggered with a rate of maybe 120 spm (sparks per minute)

I'd say you could get that in about 3-4 seconds.

It has a very fast spark rate from two 1.5V batteries linked up for 3V.

Just brushing the battery contacts by hand quickly will produce at least two sparks

Just tested it again on my desk and for the SIXTH TIME it's gone and killed my laser mouse.

It's 30 frickin' centimetres away and still dead. Need to reconnect it now -_-

I've decided it's not the coil thats doing it, it's the actual 2cm arcs it's putting out that are rogering any unshielded semiconductor based electronics around.

My poor calculator screen will never be the same again

It must be a small coil, what was nit ripped from? Or did you just go buy a relay or such from radio shack (tandy's, dick smiths, communications whatever)

Small might describe it.

Its competitive with the tippmann ignition module in size (will fit inside a pistol grip)

...albeit with a rather more vicious output (0.5s exposure, hard to see 1-2 strands in a normal 0.05s exposure)

It's been semi-encapsulated by simply applying epoxy to fill in all fiddly gaps, should have some real potting stuff (1kg of) arriving within a few days which I'll use to fit into a proper handle.

I'd have done a bit more with the epoxy I had but it had a bit of a runaway cure after I'd mixed it it heated up so much it deformed the plastic sheet I mixed it on and hardened in seconds... eh...

As it is, holding the semi-potted circuit will still give you a hell of a zap (perhaps about a dozen zaps before you can react) through the insulation. Needs a bit more around it yet but it's rounded off and filled in enough.

Well when I said 120 sparks I meant 120 on and off and on and off and on again. If it sparked more than once within the cycle that doesn't matter. Basically enough for 120 ignitions.

And now you can all puzzle at what I'm building.

A 2 shot/sec combustion type cannon ^^

I doubt a continuous spark spray is what you'd want but there is an imperceptible charge-up time so flipping the power on and off will work.

That's fine, I wouldn't want continuous spray, fueling might be interesting, on/off/on/off is perfect.

Now to go back to the beginning and see what components you used (wonders if he just sent you cash whether you could pop on in the post).

Any chance of a parts list or seperate post?
(Srry if I missed it, I don't have much time online lately)

One other compact component I was thinking are old (or new) cell phone batteries.
Slim, fairly powerful compared to AA batteries and rechargeable. Old cell phones can be found for free (or [requisitioned] from recycle/donation boxes).
Also Virgin mobile cell phones are $7.11 at 7-11 stores.
Small battery and come with a charger.

LOL I brought a nextel motorola into a sprint store (just because a friend has family plan I could get on)...I had saved the phone for batt. charger and battery.
And it could be an antique one day...

"Yes you could still connect it but the batt.s aren't available and don't last nearly as long as the new smaller ones..."

Welcome to the wonderful world of ESD and EMP weapons.

In all seriousness. high voltage discharges and computers should not be near each other. Corded keyboards and mice are especially vulnerable. Self contained digital cameras are not too bad as they often have some shielding and the lack of external antennas.

**Edit** is is possible for the pulse to be enough to permanently kill the mouse. The first one should have been a warning to not have a second, third, etc. Do you have a death wish for your mouse?
