I would go with WD40 and towels on a stick if you have a fan in it. Water generally won't hurt a brushless fan (hell, I've run them underwater), but WD40 will probably dissolve gunk better. Just make sure you get it nice and dry so you don't have persistant chamber fires when shooting.

I've used alcohol to clean the gunk out of my combustion. Removes lots of gunk but I haven't found anything that will dissolve crap out of the chamber fan.
The first time I cleaned my cannon I removed a chunk of pear, some pebbles, lots of pear/potato/persimmon shavings, and alot of yellow gunk.

Rubbing alcohol should do the trick and it wont take long for it to evaporate off either, or you can use carby cleaner as trae08 said for seriously baked on grime. Just remember to air it out after and try not to get too much fluid on the electrodes. Good luck mate.

@ cannon creator: Do you not think this is a relevant question for the combustion cannon section? I think its a pretty relevant question, if a mod wishes it to be moved they will move it. I don't mean to have a go at you but you offered no help to potato launcher and misspelt three words, one of which was the first one. I know its easy to but there is a spell check.

My mini wasn't working well last weekend, so I just filled it with soap and water, and what a difference! Instead of a weak orangy spark, I get a bright blue/white one that has no trouble igniting it. Plus the inside of the chamber is all shiny now

@mtronic,
Just FYI, it was in the General section when CannonCreator posted, I moved it to Combustion between his post and your post. Typo's aside, he was right.
Peace,
Pete Zaria.
