Cardboard Cannon :D

Yeah, it's a cannon made out of cardboard tubes.

This was the result of extreme boredom over the last two days, and the fact that golfballs fit perfectly in paper towel tubes.

Stats:
-48 cubic inch chamber
-42 cubic inch barrel (21" long)
-1.1:1 CB

-Chamber Fan
-Single spark gap
-"Drain Plug" style venting (similar to gort's Blue flame II)
-Bio-degradable

Total spent:
$2.50 on igniter

The chamber is made from 3.75 inch sch 160 cardboard. The barrel was made from DWV paper towel tubes, so I layered it with duct tape and sleeved it in a thicker tube

This gun (which I'm calling the "Hobo Blaster":)) was just one of those "I wonder if I can..." things. The only parts that aren't made of cardboard and tape are:
The fan circuit
The igniter
11 screws
Glue

Range is around 100 yards with a golfball, but hey, it's a gun made from garbage.

That has to win the ghetto award! Next time someone comments about using DWV on a combustion we can point out your cannon!
Just don't get it wet hey Fnord  I think liquid fuels would be out of the question too :violent3:
Congratulations cardboard cannon creator.

My definition of ghetto is that it must have at least 3 of these:

1) Made without measuring anything
2) At least two kinds of tape, PTFE does not count.
3) Minimum amount of money spent
4) Less than 50% rated components
5) Made while bored
6) A tool was used for a purpose other than what it was intended for in the construction
7) At least partly biodegradable.

So, it's both the materials, and the way it's made.

3, 4, 5 and 7 are definite; 2, I think is true; and I can't be sure of 1 or 6.

This wins the Ragnarok award of incredibly stupid things to do. Your statuette can be collected by keying the following code into your teleporter: 4-26-2-86825-33548 or IAMATOTALEEJIT.
The Darwin award people have been contacted, and your trophy is being pre-engraved for you.

-_-; that is very ghetto. Although it looks very clean for a really cannon. Ah well, this is cardboard we are talking about.

You know for being kinda ghetto, that thing looks good. Very slick for being out of cardboard.
DWV paper towel tubes
You know I kinda doubt a paper towel tube would even qualify as dwv, maybe v, but d and w would destroy it.

#1- False, I did infact cut it to have around a 1:1 CB.
#2- True, Duct & electrical.
#3- Sorta True, but I could have used a touchhole instead of a piezo.
#4- True, Though the chamber is probably up to par with most pvc.
#5- True
#6- False (I think).
#7- True, but every gun with a wooden stock is too.

Maybe this was a stupid thing to do, but cardboard doesn't really fragment. It's probably safer than most cellcore pvc guns in that sense.

Combustion takes place -> cardboard rips -> cardboard is set on fire -> burning cardboard gets into your eye!
