possible pressure drop in hose???

(you really only need to pay attention to the example at the end, the beginning just explains why i need to know)
Hey all, i plan on using a setup like this for my anytime anywhere little gun..
propane tank-->regulator-->hose--> quick disconnect------>meter.
basically for storage purposes the tank, reg, and hose quick disconnects from the meter for portability.
The quick disconnect on the hose is the female one that keeps pressure in.
However i don't plan on putting a pressure gauge in the meter- because a) more joints to leakproof, and b) that's what the regulator is for.
however, i'm just concerned with pressure drop- and i might be a total idiot, but it seems that as propane goes through the regulator, all the way up the hose, and into the meter, the pressure will go down a bit...
or do regulators just continue filling the reservoir (in this case the hose,) till its full?
I guess i'm not positive how a regulator works.
here's a sample of what i'm basically asking. Say you have a propane tank then a regulator, then a big 3"x4" tank- which is something like 30 cubic inches. and the regulator is set to say, 28 PSI. Will the regulator keep filling that tank until it is at 28 PSI? Then say you switch it to a 3"x12" tank. Will it fill that much bigger tank to 28 PSI as well?? Will it keep going no matter what the reservoir size?? Assuming there is enough propane.
