How do you mount the hose to the propane bottle

I can't believe what I had to go through to get my hose mounted to the bottle. After trips to all the local hardware stores, I ended up buying a 7/16" compression x 3/8" FIP fitting from an online plumbing store in California that I adapted to a cut torch fitting.

However, I have seen adaptors that screw right on the bottle with a hose attached that looked like they were built that way.

So, how are you guys attaching the hose to the bottle? I'm looking for a simplier method on my next cannon.

Or... you can just get the torch and unscrew the top part of it... Buy a small hoseclamp and hoseclamp a small PRESSURE RATED hose onto it?

The typical way for one to cheaply adapt a propane torch to pipe threads is to:


1.) Remove the torch tube from the needle valve. Can be accomplished with two large wrenches (one of them being a pipe wrench... or vise).

2.) Clean out the threads. They will have thread-locker on them.

3.) Buy a 1/4" MNPT x 1/4" compression adapter, and unscrew the compression nut and throw away that and the olive. Coat the straight threads that went into the compression nut in lots of teflon tape, and thread into the needle valve where the torch tube used to go.

That's how I do it. Cost's about $1 (for me the conversion was free since I had the parts laying around) and can be reversed so the torch is still useable as a torch.

The air mixer can usually be removed with your bare hands. When replacing the mixer hand tight is more than adequate.

For high volume applications, I hit a propane heat supply house. They have high pressure propane hose (left hand fittings) POL (non flow restricted) fittings with left hand thread for the hose and an o ring on the nose for wrench free operation, the hose in various lengths, and a left hand hose to 1/4 inch male to connect to the heater, regulator or other appliance.

One of these is a tank fitting and lantern adaptor screwed together with 1/4 inch pipe thread in the middle.

Google is your friend. A trip to your local outdoor store often has most of these parts. Please use left hand fittings for fuel hose so it can't be crossed with air.

The left hand hose for fuel is a standard and is used on welding tourches to prevent connecting fuel and oxygen backwards. As such many fitting to adapt to regulators and POL bulk tanks are as close as your local welding supply house. DO NOT USE A LOW PRESSURE HOSE FOR UNREGULATED PROPANE. The fittings are the same.
