I need some help deciding how to orient my fan fort the best performance, to have it laying on its side (seeing the side of the fan as you look in) or placing it standing up (so you see the spinning blades)?

im assuming this is for a chamber fan? i would put the fan standing up, and so the wind inside blows towards the back of the gun, thats what i did for my cannon, and have had no problems

the only problem is i have only 2" for where the fan would be placed to the clean-out cap. That is why i was thinking on placing it on its side.

Placing it on its side will aid in fuel mixing but not pulling fresh air in very well. The good news is that it will do that mixing very well.

How bad will the mixing be with it standing up?

The mixing will be perfectly fine with it standing up.

best solution is to have a mixing pipe (a pipe inside the chamber with a little fan in the end), that way u can pull out CO2 from the bottom of the chamber, and u fill up with fresh air pretty quick while u reload.
it also gives a wery good fuel mix :-)
