Any type of fuel burned is going to leave behind a byproduct. Rubbing alcohol is a good cleaner, soak a rag and wipe it out.
White Sprite, the soda?

Soak the rag good and put some umf into it. May take a splashing on the threads, let it soak a minute or two then wipe it out. But yea rubbing alcohol will break most petroleum distillates down pretty easily.

You might consider using starting fluid. It is common, cheap, and doesn't have as much byproduct as its function is to burn. After a while a greasy layer will build up. To get rid of it I would light it on fire, don't stare in the chamber (you probably will), and quickly wave the launcher around to put it out. To long and the plastic would start to melt.
