A PVC combustion cannon, when constructed properly will not burst from use as a normal combustion. As long as you don't pull any stupid shit, like acetylene or NO2, you'll be fine with either choice.
I actually prefer ABS pipe when it comes to combustions. The fact that its lightweight, and also works appeals to me. I dont know why you brang about this questions as it is clear you are stuck with one type of plastic piping.
As Drac said, both work. So you need to explore other pros and cons since the protection provided by both is suffient. Its like choosing to live in a 2x6 contstructed home or a bunker. Not to mention the black is "cool".

Just to clarify, Sch 40 or 80 or 120 aren't pressure ratings. They just specify the wall thickness of the pipe. Abs is usually sch 40 (from my experience) and is generally dwv (not pressure-rated). Some abs is even cellular core which means it is very weak and not suitable for any cannon.

Look, for a combustion you can use DWV pipe such as ABS, for a pneumatic it is a big NO and is probably what the sites you have read are talking about.
I wanted to make a huge pneumatic but quickly learned that Pressure rated pipe is no where to be found where I live so I just made a big combustion out of ABS which holds up just fine.
